Comment: I made a reservation a MONTH in advance for a 20’ Uhaul truck to pick up at 8AM. We got to this Uhaul dealer to pick up the truck and waited for 15+ minutes to be seen by someone. When we were finally seen the guy asked for the name the reservation was under and then 10+ minutes of silence went by. He was making several phone calls to people and wasn’t communicating with us what was going on. Then he writes down an address on a piece of paper and tells us we have to go get a truck from said address because they “don’t have it” and he can’t help us, despite my reservation being for the location I showed up to. He was extremely unhelpful, unprofessional, and rude.

After being walked from another franchised location in San Diego (after having had made a reservation 3 weeks in advance) that shall be names less but they’re located on a street they rhymes with ‘drape’. The Adams location will be my go to even though they’re not in my neighborhood, I’ll go back!

Comment: Honestly, the woman who helped us rent the u-haul on Sunday 12/17 went above and beyond by really working to help us out and get us what we wanted. We were 50min late for our reservation, 10 minutes to closing, and she really worked hard and took the time to give us exactly what we needed, even willing to give us a better vehicle that has just been turned in and she worked past closing to help us out and get us our preferred rental. We really appreciate her excellent customer service! She deserves to be commended. Thank you 🙏 The dropoff went great as well, parked it and followed the app instructions to close it out with no issues. Will recommend this location to anyone in the Hillcrest / University Heights/ North Park area of San Diego.

Comment: I made a reservation with this company on 12/14/23. I returned the vehicle on 12/15/23.Instead of doing a walkthrough/walk around of the vehicle, I was told they would just send a receipt. I never received a receipt from that location. I received one from a customer service representative I talked to when I tried to call the local company this morning. Later on yesterday evening I remembered I left a nice looking cooler filled with others stuff(hair products, cologne, first aid products, cleaning supplies, a shredder ) in the truck.This morning I called immediately once they opened and I was told by the manager, Ernesto Menburu, “someone threw it in the trash.” I asked was that their policy and to show me something in writing he couldn’t. I asked why I wasn’t notified? He that he couldn’t call every single person that leaves stuff. I’m unsure if it’s writing but prior to people leaving, a walk around and a review of the miles and the truck should be conducted prior to the customer leaving. Ultimately this company is stealing people’s belongings. Even if someone left trash in the truck intentionally, at the time the truck is returned, a cleaning fee could be charged.I don’t think that’s Uhaul’s policy, I think the managers and personnel at this specific location aren’t doing the right thing.I would not recommend going to this location and a review of how business is being conducted should be reviewed.

Comment: Rented vehicle for a long distance trip, the woman behind the counter wouldn’t even acknowledge me when I attempted to pick up the vehicle, unable to answer basic question such as how automated tolls would be billed, etc.The truck issued had no working radio (would turn on/off when you hit potholes during the trip) I received no vehicle walk around/introduction which is fine, yet, somewhat unprofessional, the truck was missing a windshield wiper blade which created a serious hazard during the trip when I encountered rain - when I called to notify the originating location they immediately referred me to roadside assistance and would not even tell me the model vehicle I had rented from them (to look up purchasing a new blade); the roadside assistance representative was helpful but couldn’t offer assistance for over an hour (I decided to buy / install a new blade myself to avoid further delay).The second you leave this location you are no longer their concern and they make that evident. Overall I will be avoiding using U-Haul in the future based off of my experience with their lack of customer focus as well as equipment upkeep.

Comment: This place will give any uhaul a run for its money for being the worst uhaul dealership in the SD area.I did the express online checkout - took over 30 minutes to get my truck.Did not have the dolly I reserved. The dude was like, too bad. I asked if another uhaul had a dolly, he said, its first come first serve. Cant help you. Argh! Nearly broke my back lifting heavy furniture - Thats why I ordered a dolly!!!Got in my truck - paperwork said it had a full tank of gas - blah, nope. Was almost empty. Rather than taking off and meeting the people that were waiting on me, I had to go back in and fix the situation.If anyone has ever watched the show Supernatural and saw what Crowley did to hell, he really needed to make hell the Uhaul place in University Heights.

Comment: I spent 30+ mins on the phone with a representative of uhaul to sort out my situation, since my vehicle isnt listed on their systems. Everything was set I even asked if there should be any issues when I arrive at the location, representative said no everything is set, your vehicle is good to tow. When I arrive at the location I thought it was gonna be fast since I did everything by phone, comes to turn out I had to the process again in person just for the guy to tell me he couldnt rent it out because of my truck not being listed on their system. I told the guy working what the representative told me over the phone but he kept saying he couldnt. I dont get why some one tells me one thing and another tells me another thing. Huge huge waste of time.

Comment: I rented a small truck to transfer a room of items I won in an auction. I secured the vehicle online and picked it up at the designated time. The gals behind the desk were helpful and hospitable. They got my truck right away. It was the end of February so I was concerned there may not be enough vehicles, but they have a large inventory of trucks of all sizes, as well as trailers. They also have a huge inventory of moving supplies.The rate for the 10 truck was just $19.95, excluding gas and insurance, which I opted for. It was a very smooth transaction, both picking up and dropping off. I highly recommend this Adams Ave at Alabama U-Haul location in University Heights. You will be glad you tried them. ♡

Also mislabeled the gas returned as less than actual reading, and added an extra cleaning fee for an already clean truck. It doubled my expected rental cost for incorrect charges and customer services response was someone will get back to you. Displeased with U-Haul and this location.

They have ALL if the packing supplies too.They let me get and pay for supplies ahead of a line of equipment renters so I could get in and out. Youll have to park on the street because their small lot is full of trucks and trailers. Im going back for more supplies.

Comment: Renter beware! Based on my experience with them about a month ago, I would recommend avoiding this place. The only reason I am giving them two stars is because the equipment was in good enough condition, and it was available at the time we requested it.Basically, we rented our van with additional equipment on our reserved date and were told that, if we couldnt return the van by closing, just leave it in the lot with the equipment, and to deposit keys and documentation. This was fine and there was no issue with the record for returning the van. The problem was that we were then charged for extra equipment that we didnt use! Essentially, we reserved and took six pads and a dolly, but we got charged for a dozen pads and two dollies. It was only $10 extra dollars, but when your total purchase price was only $90, thats rather significant.Anyway, the real problem comes from the fact that the customer service guy was evasive, unresponsive and even a little shady about the whole ordeal. After repeated calls, I finally had to visit the shop personally and demand the refund... at which point he finally did process it.In summary, the equipment was fine, but beware of erroneous charges, and possibly even minor scheming by a shady clerk that works here.

Comment: Reserved two trucks here weeks in advance and received a call the night before telling me they were unavailable. Requested that uhaul honor their $50 reservation guarantee and was told that the guarantee only counts if you show up in person and the truck isnt there, but they can call you to cancel at any time and it isnt valid. So muclh for trying to reserve the equipment you need.
