Overall the experience is good. However, was promised to be in a studio apartment in the lofts for Sr. School year approaching. Started the process early per management. They had more than enough of them coming available but seemed to have gotten discriminated against when it came down to delivering... We were told we were at the top of a wait list then only heard excuses on why they could not deliver on the studio but others I know received the loft studio but started the process after me. Something is not adding up here.
Although everyone was very friendly and helpful during the move in process, there was only one person to check in a long line of students at the housing payment station. Needless to say, that took an extremely long time to get through. Parking was chaotic, which is to be expected I guess, but was a big hassle. One of the more disappointing issues was, we found the kitchen to be dirty upon arrival. The stove and refrigerator needed wiped down, and there was dirt and crumbs all over the floor. All that said, things could have been much worse, and I think in the end it will be nice living quarters for the school year, but I hope these kind of complaints can be ironed out for the future.
I have never seen this type of incompatible staff.Deplorable service. I am fed up with very poor internet connectivity. And the most disgraceful thing is that when the staff told you it is not their problem and did not account to give the answer.I will not recommend this type of inadequate service. I know technical failure happens anywhere at any time but it is not the way to handle the situation. We are students and hope that union will take care of us.
My daughter lived here temporarily; her apartment was very nice, the bedrooms had their own locks on the doors for privacy/security and the building was always kept very clean. Management did a nice job of adhering to Covid-19 safety regulations, while still trying to maintain access to amenities.
There was a leak coming from the apartment above mine that resulted in water leaking into my room through the ceiling. The Union did nothing to help me or attempt to fix the damage. I believed that with the water sitting in my room and ceiling for so long mold had grown and the Union still did nothing to fix the damage and they still wanted me to live in the room and pay. We attempted multiple times to contact Management like Jordan Wohl and never got an answer to why nothing was being done and was just being ignored. If I were to give any advice to someone who is thinking about staying there is don’t it is terrible. The Union is all nice on this review page saying they are willing to talk to me and work this out but then when I tried multiple times to contact them I get nothing. Please whatever you do DON’T LIVE HERE!!!!
Youd be better off getting a real one bedroom apartment or finding a roommate and getting a two bedroom as opposed to living in that matchbox they call a dorm room. Living there was a waste of money, I couldve save about 2 grand in loans had I known better. Im glad I got out when I did, otherwise I would have a lot more in loans for no reason. The apartment I live in now is only 20 dollars more in rent and I have the WHOLE place to myself. Read that again. I have an entire 820 sq ft apartment to myself, and Im paying basically the same amount as I was to SHARE an apartment with 3 other people. Plus, I found out there were people who stayed in a 2 bedroom paying less than I was (780) to stay in a 4 bedroom. If youre really in need of a place to stay, its decent enough, but not worth the money honestly. Use your financial aid to get your own apartment.
The Union at Dearborn is an excellent student housing option! I’ve lived here the past three years, and am happy to say it was a pleasant experience. The union was SUPER convenient as a student without a car to walk to campus(UM Dearborn). It also has tons of fun events that give out food, provide a space for socializing, and allows you to get to know the office staff(most of whom are students and residents too). The apartments are extremely updated, include furniture, appliances and all utilities. You also have a plethora of floor plans to choose from. Definitely worth the price(and SO MUCH BETTER THAN A DORM!!!).
Apartments are nice, well furnished. Definitely a step-up from dorms. Maintenance staff is very helpful and prompt. Staff is helpful. There are a fair number of community events for residents. However, maintenance around the community (hallways, stairwells) leaves some to be desired. Workout facilities are nice. Overall satisfied.
The Union is a great place for students to stay if they are looking to live the near campus. I am impressed with the experience and service that I have received throughout my stay for the past 3 years. The management even took my physical disability into consideration and moved me to the first floor in case of emergencies and ease of access. The staff are friendly and responsive, problems are solved in a timely manner by maintenance crew. I would highly recommend this place if they want the full college experience at UM Dearborn! Thanks Jackie and Bruce for all your help.
I am a current UM Dearborn student and this is honestly not a place I recommend to college students. The prices are ridiculously high, I pay $868 per month. I couldve bought a car and paid it off with how much Im spending. Also, the building isnt properly maintained. I blame the residents mostly but you see rubble from broken ceiling tiles littering the halls and trash at every corner. I requested maintenance for my toilet also on a Friday and the staff finally came to my door on a Wednesday afternoon to correct the issue, after I fixed it myself. Its not the worst place in the world, but it requires a lot more T.L.C before living in this building is worth the monthly payment.
I stayed here last year and when the Pandemic hit, they continued to make us pay full rent for the last 3 months when a majority of the people that were living there for class had moved back home. If that was not bad enough, if you renewed your lease last year thinking things would get better, they are now charging $600 a month for us to break lease 3 months in advance of the school year, when U of M -Dearborn has announced that classes will be 90% online. They do not care about the residents, and they only care about money. They are extremely shady, and I would highly recommend not staying there
Review is of the facility itself and not the people. Ive lived here for four years and Ive enjoyed my experience. I get a fully-furnished room for a decent price thats walking distance from campus. Full kitchen. My own bathroom. I love my apartment--I wish I never had to leave it. The staff varies, but is generally kind (though Im sure it helps that I bring them treats from time to time), and my maintenance concerns are addressed quickly. My upstairs neighbor is loud as heck, but I cant control who lives around me.
It seems nice at first but it’s extremely overpriced and disgusting. People throw large party’s all the time and no matter how many times you call to report it they don’t do anything. I can’t even get them to go upstairs and ask my neighbor to turn down his music unless my boyfriend asks for me. The security down there doesn’t listen to anyone who sounds female. On top of this they are extremely pushy about releasing and if you need to ask a question about your lease- good luck getting an answer. Management is never in the building, it’s only residents who work there in the leasing office.
The reason why The Union at Dearborn gets poor reviews from customers is because of every aspect it has to offer. From bad management, horrible maintenance, expensive fees (which arent even worth it due to the quality of the dorms), lack of security, and unfriendly atmosphere, it is an example of a student housing experience gone wrong. It is easy to understand why there is so much hate towards this establishment, but that does not mean it deserves any positive marks or forgiveness. Instead, there should be some reforms for this place, and there has been enough issues that have yet to be addressed. The fact that the management here pays people to write fake good reviews and takes down negative reviews does not help either.
Very convenient, shopping shuttle for U-M students, water volume in showers are high, wifi connection is good, facilities are good, nice kitchen, have furniture. Mall at the back.water in the bath room take longer time to be hot sometimes, and since i live in a 4*2, if you have a noisy neighbor or roommate, you may smell pot in the bath, and some people bring outside guest to the room to stay (usually couples) so you may hear some weird noise at night. If your upstairs always have party, they may crack your ceiling. If your room mate does not do cleaning at all, you have to do it.And the bed is too soft for me, the chair in the bedroom is not comfortable. You need to buy everything for the room, from shower curtains to vacuum machine.p.s. they charge full month price for the last month of lease, but you have to move out on the 15th of the last month
Great place to live. Such a friendly community and office staff. There were quite a few things that needed fixing all of sudden this month but maintenance has been timely and actually getting the job done. Everything is well organized and they hold community events for the residents which are pretty engaging with the other residents and fun. Honestly, this place is dope. Im def renewing my lease. Only thing I would recommend, im literally right next door to the trash room, so there can sometimes be a stench that lingers in my apartment, especially if the windows are up and take DAYS to get rid of; as well as trash sometimes lingering right outside of my door. Would be nice to have the area sprayed or something. I be feeling like Im walking into an area of bacteria and Ive slight OCD. But I honestly couldnt ask for a better community of people. Thanks brahs!
I attended the university of Michigan Dearborn my freshman year and it was convenient to live near campus. That however is the only thing good about this place. After the pandemic hit there was no reason for me to live an hour and a half away from home with school closed, however the union gave no exemption for 3 months rent (like other colleges did). That was bad enough, but it gets worse. I was then pressured into renewing my lease and told that if classes stay online I would be able to back out of my lease. I renewed in hopes classes would be in person but with 90% of classes online it makes no sense for me to pay the outrageous price of rent. I was lied to and told I could back out of my lease with the circumstances and I am now faced with either living there or paying $600 a month to cancel my lease until they find a resident to fill my spot. The union at Dearborn is only about making money and does not care about those living there. If I could give zero stars I would.
My daughter stayed and is currently staying there in a 4 bedroom.. The place is nice. Three of the girls are great. The fourth isnt. Her name is STAR(A VERY INCONSIDERATE PERSON). They all signed a roommate contract. This STAR girl has constantly violated it by eating their food . having people live there on the couch. The Union hasnt done anything about it. Letting her friends Eat all the food, even though STAR doesnt pay for any of it.They have been trying to evict her since January. I and the other parents have have complained 20 to 30 times and have documented it.. Bruce who is in charge is useless.. My daughter is a prisoner in her bedroom. If your child rooms with a friend it could be a great experience. If not.... The Union at Dearborn will NOT have your back. It has been an awful experience.. I would stay far away from this place.... Its been an expensive lesson.. I didnt listen to the negative reviews about the mgmt. Wish I had. Please read the negative reviews. We have found these to be mostly true.
Small rooms, bad design, water smells like plastic when you run it in the morning. the hallways are nasty, the trash room is a mess every day. cant cook anything without the room smoking up. VERY BAD VENTILATION. overpriced. the only reason i gave it a one star was because of the location. everything else is terrible DONT LIVE HERE.
This place was absolutely amazing!! I was down bad slinging dope left and right back in chiraq but once I moved here... it became very clear that this was gonna be my new beginning!! From the wonderful people in the office to the stead fast maintenance crew that make sure to keep the union running strong. The union is a place where dreams are made 🤩
I originally had issues getting into The Union without a guarantor since I do not have my own job, and was gonna have to pay rent for an apartment that I wasn’t living in, but I was able to pay my entire lease in full and you can get in that way without any issue. The apartment is really nice and my roommates are nice as well. I was originally gonna be put into a 4x2 cuz that’s what I paid for but I got relocated into a 4x4 so I have my own bathroom which is always great. I think I will enjoy my stay here and if I am able to afford staying long term I probably will.
DO NOT MOVE HERE!!!They should just burn this place to the ground.Reasons:My friends car was stolen, and they didn’t even have a security camera to record it!Rooms are disgusting!Maintenance doesn’t fix anything! All three elevators are constantly out of service! No hot water!?!?Staff is NOT helpful!Rooms are just bigger than a broom closet!Washing machines are so filthy I drive an hour to my parents to wash my clothes. Oh and they also cost $1.75 per wash and I was told they were an “amenity!”No heat from air heater.!The gym makes me laugh. They don’t even have a barbell! The mall across the street is a death trap! The parking lot is a mile away from the door, unless you pay hundreds extra to live in the lofts.People have been mugged here!?They pay people for good reviews!?And Much much much morePros:Within walking distance of UM-DSuck a d***, Union at Dearborn!
As a warning, residents have been bribed with gifts of monetary value to leave positive reviews on sites such as Google Maps specifically, that is how awful the people running this business are at their job.Overall, the facility and building is very nice, especially for student housing. However, for the prices we are charged, I expect much better maintenance and staff. For example, the windows in my room develop so much condensation it runs off and forms small amounts of mold on the window sills and has caused damage to the living room window sill. The laundry facilities are terribly unkept, the machinery in the gym is beginning to break down, and the printer NEVER works. I have also been without cable for two and a half weeks because the staff has done nothing to fix the situation. In light of all this, at least the rooms themselves are decent and come fully equipped for one flat fee.Looking back on my review after living here for a full year I have downgraded it to one star only. The staff is atrociously inept at handling any issues. They treat residents like they know nothing. The facilites have gotten much worse due to a lack of upkeep over the year as well, with many things such as elevators, laundry machines, gym equipment, and water systems failing. Steer clear living here if you have the option.Update 2:I am giving back one star to my overall rating because as of late, the staff has started to reach out and listen more in terms of helping us with issues. They claim to be cracking down on illegally parked cars as well which should help the parking situation eventually.Update 3:The staff genuinely has become more reasonable it seems. However, the elevators have become junk. Rarely do all three work at the same time. Also, smoking and drinking use has become much worse here. It is AGAINST the rules of the building which I appreciate, but these rules are never enforced. Its annoying having to cover my bathroom vent with plastic wrap to keep the cigarette smell out from the apartments below me. And the hallways constantly smell like marijuana which is also not only prohibited but still illegal in Michigan. Just trashy people here and its a shame. If people respected the place like they should, it could be a great place to live.Update 4:A couple of weeks ago there was a fire alarm in my building that went off. This was on March 10, I am writing this on April 21. We, as residents were never told why the alarms went off, even though there was plenty of smoke in the first floor hallway. Doing my own looking around, it appears that a dryer caught on fire. No word from management on what happened or how they can prevent this from happening again. Back to one star we go... Also, they still have not cleaned all the dust from the fire extinguisher residue at that area of the hallway. You can tell they halfway vacuumed the carpet there, but the walls are still covered. As regards the atrocious parking policies here, the management sure has started to crack down... on people who park in the Staff spots only though! I was told they were having signs made and everything for the parking lot... that was over 5 months ago and still no efforts have been made for the residents sakes.
My daughter hasn’t even moved in yet and we’re super unhappy about the management skills at this place. I wish I would’ve listened to the bad reviews already written. For the price it cost to live in these apartments we could’ve rented her a house close to the school. Never again!! You shouldn’t allow people who are misinformed to sign leases because we were not given the correct information before signing it.
Very nice amenities! The gym is very nice and the rooms are quite large. I enjoyed having my own bathroom. There was even a wonderful service where they cleaned the apartment every two weeks, and even left a mint on the pillow and changed the sheets! It was like living in a hotel. I would highly recommend.
So far I like living here. The units are really nice and are furnished very well. The gym is great and I love that its 24 hours. Its also fun that there are community events. Only problems are that the apartment has smelled a little weird since we moved in and we had a fruit fly problem. The people in the office are nice and helpful, though they seem to be very busy.
If it were possible to give this place 0 stars, I would. Before I ever moved in, I was yelled at on the phone for asking about prices for a 4 bedroom 4 bath. I was hung up on twice. After eight calls, I was still never told the actual price, but was instead given several incorrect ones. After I moved in, I had a roommate who was making all of us feel unsafe in our homes. I asked for mediation, and instead of being heard, the leasing manager screamed at me as I was crying. Bear in mind, this is a grown man screaming at an 18 year old girl. He sent me back to my apartment, saying he didnt care to do anything for us. I went in, and the roommate wed had issues with began shrieking at me, so I headed back down to the office. I was told that that didnt happen and was sent home again. Where the roommate got in my face an screamed. So, I went back to the office AGAIN, and was escorted back to my apartment by one of the office workers, who then had to coax my roommate out. Instead of a proper mediation with all of us, I was sat in a room with her and was told that her screaming at me was fine bc I hurt her feelings by not letting her take my food. We were told we would get a lease addendum and never did. I lived with her, feeling unsafe for the remainder of my lease. In the time I was there, the following things occurred:- We found actual feces in a common area- Vomit was found in a hallway and after the Union was informed, it sat there for three days.- The snow was rarely cleared off sidewalks within the time required by the city.- Our neighbors continually stole our doormat, and when reported, we were laughed at.- There was mold in the stairwells.- The elevators rarely worked, which was great when we lived on the fourth floor.- A snow plow hit several vehicles, including mine, and when I asked for the name of the company, they refused to give it to me.- There was almost no parking. Sometimes, we had to park at the mall across the street overnight. The solution they came up with? They were going to start charging for parking in the spring. Thankfully, they were so disorganized that they didnt end up rolling that out while I lived there.-The supposedly secure access key pad was useless, as several of the doors remained unlocked at all times.- They constantly sent maintenance into our homes without warning and without knocking. They replaced our dishwasher without telling us, while we were all gone. This is especially fun since in our lease it says that we would receive 24-hour warnings before they sent maintenance. Safety became a concern, as I was often alone with grown men who would come in without warning.-In November or December, they began construction on the other side of my wall. They only worked early in the morning, though, which made getting sleep or studying hard. Especially since I couldnt be in the living room a lot of the time due to the roommate we has issues with. I was told it would end in January. But, you know, it was still going when I left. And, of course, the workers made lewd comments whenever I left my apartment.- There have to be so many more incidents, but the most frustrating I can think of now was the deposit return. My lease ended August 15, but I moved out June 20, because I couldnt deal with everything listed above. I turned in my key and the leasing manager said Id have my deposit in two weeks. That didnt happen, so I called. Supposedly, it would be in my hands September 15. Cool. September 15 comes and goes. Apparently I need to talk to the financial manager. But Im not allowed to speak to her on the phone or in person. I email. Nothing. I keep trying to contact her. Nothing. And then, in October, supposedly my check has returned to the Union after they messed up my new mailing address (which I had emailed them several times to correct them on, with no response).Anyway, dont live here. Its a garbage place and everyone I had to talk to on the staff was rude and had no idea what they were doing. They also have continually removed my Facebook reviews, which is fun!
Extremely overpriced, cant get out of incredibly strict and expensive lease agreement if it turns out you cant afford it, everyone treats the place like their own personal trashcan (hallways and elevators). Speaking of elevators, they never even work half of the time. Please please please dont make the mistake of living here, there are nicer and MUCH MUCH MUCH MORE AFFORDABLE places by campus everywhere around here. Signing my whole savings away on this lease agreement was a bad choice.
The Union is a nice place overall for college student living and exceeds normal dorm life. Location is superb – pretty much in the middle of Dearborn and with-in walking distance from the mall, UM-Dearborn, Henry Ford College or a short drive to many businesses and popular places around the area. Amenities include furnished apartments, a nice lobby to hangout/study in, a small market that is open all the time (though prices are quite high), laundry facilities (pay-per-load of laundry), workout facility that is decent for the apartment, separate air conditioning/heater for every bedroom, a future game room and more. Other expenses (cable, electric, wi-fi, etc.) are also included in the monthly price. There are also frequent community events and incentives, which is extremely nice to keep people busy and meeting others who live at The Union. As stated, all amenities and expenses are included in one monthly rate, which is extremely convenient, though the price can be steep for some people, which should mean everything here is top notch, which is not the case.To start, parking. There is a large parking lot at the south end of the building, closest to the loft part of The Union, but the lofts are often kept locked from the main apartments, in which most people live, and the apartment keys do not work getting into the lofts from inside or out. Essentially, most people have to walk outside, around the lofts, to get to their cars or back inside, rather than straight through the loft area and into the parking lot, or to the apartments. Kind of seems like a weird and pointless issue, especially terrible in the winter months.Other issues I have encountered come with the windows. When it gets colder, condensation gets on the windows and causes little puddles of water around the window and on the sill – sometimes causing mold and/or mildew. These windows are terrible for being in Michigan and minimally let in cool air, likely due to the material and lack of insulation. Also, hot water here is spotty…sometimes it takes a long time to kick on, it comes on instantly or the water will get only warm – this goes for showers and sinks. Elevators also break down regularly and the stairwells are not too clean. Though lately, the elevators seem to be working fine. Lastly, the floors and walls seem to be pretty thin and let in a lot of noise.I also had a continuous leak under the bathroom sink the first weekend being moved in (Labor Day weekend). I called an emergency number and had a maintenance person quickly come to fix it, later in the night, then finish it two days later. Excellent service, but the area in which he had to cut out under the sink was never repaired, which is not really a big deal. Having fast service in the evening, on Labor Day weekend was great. Other staff here has always been nice to me and I have not had any issues in that respect nor have I had many internet issues as many people complain about. That being said, the internet is not the best, but it works fine.Lastly, this is primarily a college student apartment complex. That means there are parties, louder noises and messes caused by other residents. Unfortunately, this is hard to control, and people should expect this if they move in – welcome to college life. You also will have roommates in almost every floor plan, so it can be hit-or-miss with the type of roommates you get, but this is just another automatic factor that comes with living at a place like this. All in all, The Union is not perfect, but it is not terrible for college student living and it is a convenient option in terms of the one, flat (and maybe high) price as well as the excellent location. The issues that people are having also seem to be being addressed, which is something that is nice to see. This review is of my personal experience.
DO NOT STAY HERE. The hallways are filled with the stench of garbage, the stairways are treated like a dumpster with all kinds of unsatisfying stains and smells along with broken rails. If I could give this place zero stars i would in a heartbeat. I had gone to the registration office one day to ask whether or not I had to pay my last rent for the month, the employees checked a couple files and assured me that I did not have to pay the months rent. Fast forward a couple weeks and I had received a phone call saying that I had to pay late fee charges of a couple hundred dollars for my rent. Had they told me to pay my rent that day I wouldn’t have had to deal with these extra charges. Fast forward even more I decided to go to the office again to sort out this misunderstanding. There was one Male employee that was very understanding and helpful, however when I spoke to another lady she provided no help and didn’t even attempt to understand my issue and help resolve it. She continued to say it was my fault and didn’t even attempt to help whatsoever . Beside that one good employee I really have nothing good to say about this place.
Ah, the Union. When I first lived here it was absolutely wonderful. To taste freedom for the very first time and being on your own was very nice! It was all great until after a year of staying here, I saw their true colors. For the first year my mom paid my rent but that had to change considering the fact that were not that well off. I got a job but I could only pay half of my rent. To fix that problem I had to get two jobs; yes thats right, two jobs and go to school and I was still a freshman at the time. Because of this, I was able to pay a big part of my rent and my mom could pay a small portion but my grades started to plummet. I became a student that was on the Deans List to somebody who was just trying to make it. I was so tired coming home walking from work (since I dont have a car) and had no energy to study or do homework since I had a morning class in the midst of a few hours.I was planning on staying here for another two years or so until a terrible incident happened. During my second year of school, my first job had to let all the employees go because the building was bought and being closed down. I lost one job but I still had another and my reliable mother, but that also changed when my mother was rushed to the ER and was at the hospital for some time. I couldnt really speak or talk to her for awhile and couldnt even pay a good portion of my rent because not only did I lose one job and my mother was in the hospital, but the last job I had kept cutting my hours because they had this extreme habit of being over hours.I told The Union about my whole situation and you know what they said to me ... yeeaahh, the rent still has to be paid, and they still charged me for late fees. I was so shocked by the lack of empathy they presented, but that wasnt the only time the Union disappointed me. My roommate allowed someone to stay since their internet was out. Those few weeks become a whole year. Maintenance and management come circling in and out of here constantly and have NEVER questioned the fact of seeing someone always on the couch? Now I really didnt have that much of a problem with it, but my mom did and reported it. They said they would get back to us and send me an email but they did neither of the sort. So they basically allowed a squatter to live here, rent free, for about year, even when my mom was able to get the manager. But this is only the few major problems I had with the Union. Theres insufficient heating/AC, water malfunctions, poor maintenance staff, poor roommate matching, and also payment issues. There was a time my mom just got out the hospital and paid the rent but it didnt go through for some reason. They said they would look into and STILL charged us late fees even when my mom had legitimate proof that she indeed paid for it.For ANYONE who has their eyes set on this place please do think twice. In my opinion, the place is ultimately trying to scam you out of money. I told them that I would have trouble paying the rent and I cant live here no more but on the lease document, you need someone to take your room, and apparently after that, they charge you even more fees. So I was stuck here, owing this place so much money even though I told them specifically I dont have the funds to the pay the rent and I was packed and ready to leave this place at any giving moment. So here is my advice to people who wish to stay at The Union At Dearboorn:1. make sure you are economically stable to pay $600+ EACH AND EVERY MONTH, before signing a lease here.2. Make sure you have a car.3. Harass the staff until you think what they are giving is fit to your needs and wants. I got a small room (which I guess the big bathroom makes up for but I dont have a bathtub) without me even consenting and I was suppose to have three roommates but one did not stay because before he signed a lease, he checked out the room and found mold in it. Hm, some clean place they run here. And plus, youre paying over 600 dollars. In my opinion, anything that costly should have nothing but A+ quality service.
Staff is rude and never wants to help. The maintenance staff is unknowledgeable about many things in maintenance. Every time I walk in the office I get filthy looks and they must gossip about me all the time, or they would not recognize my face and match it with my room number (though I try to not visit, as one might guess). I had to fight to get my apartment fixed. When I moved in there was black mold in the shower, blackened gum stuck all in the carpet, and the stove was awful. Was an actual fight to get any help and maintenance treats ME like I am stupid, even though they are the ones who write reports back with awful spelling and act like everything is fine when it is really not. Took them 2 months to repair a broken elevator (oh, ALL of the elevators are slow and never work). Hot water never works. Once I had a package that they gave to someone else, and I was the one chewed out for complaining about it. Once, there was a blood spill in the laundry room (it looked like someone had spilled his guts out), and it took them almost a week to clean it up (and they did not block off the biohazard, so anyone could have walked into the blood spill). When complaining about a neighbor who smoked (which is prohibited and bugs my asthma), I was told to, keep my drama down. If I could give this negative or zero stars, you can bet I would.
At first it was great to be on your own and away from your parents. After a few month I had an incident with my roommate where she was yelling and threatening me. The Union told me that I signed a contract and that there is nothing that they can do except do a mediation. This was useless. Now I hardly stay in my room, I go home most nights. I am paying for an unsafe environment, and they would not even let me change rooms. I offered to pay more a month, and they still said no. This is the worst management I have ever seen, and I would avoid living here at all cost.
Fall 2014, I was a sophomore transfer from West Bloomfield, MI. The convenience of being across the street from UMD is amazing. Also, the building is so secure and clean. Fully furnished apartments are the way to go. Not to mention all utilities and wifi are included! The roommate matching does really work. I moved into a 4 bedroom, 4 bathroom blind. My roommates and I get along great, and have a lot of things in common. The Union puts on many social events for the whole building so you really get that college life experience. Also, the other residents are mostly students and are very friendly. The only complaint I have is about the parking. Minimal parking is available in front of each main entrance. Be prepared to park in their extra lot, which is not that well lit.
The Union at Dearborn is the biggest mistake I have ever made. My roommates and I each pay $700 a month for this apartment, however my room is half the size of either of theirs, my closet is 2 feet wide, and my cable in my room doesnt work. And for that $700, I get a heater that only sometimes works, an A/C that gets turned off in the fall, a maintenance staff that works in slow motion, management that doesnt care about its tenants, terrible internet and an extremely basic cable package. A $2100 a month apartment should have none of those things. Nobody should waste their time on the Union at Dearborn.
Internet service has recently been crashing constantly and is not available for long periods of time.Maintenance is incredibly poor. There have been several leeks throughout my apartment: one in my room, one in the bathroom, and one in the kitchen. I had to move out for a whole month before they finally fixed the one in my room. And they never called to let me know when they had it fixed. I had to keep checking in with them. The leeks in the bathroom had to be fixed three times and the leek in the kitchen has come back multiple times and still has not been fully fixed over the past 6-8 months. My roommate and I called for a new air conditioning unit. They came to first check out what was wrong with the first one. Then they never showed back up and so we had to call them again. They came back and took the old one out. Then they said they would get us a new one the next day, and so they left the ladder in our apartment (to access the air conditioning unit). But they never showed up until a week later finally with a new one. Some of the staff at the front desk are helpful. But there were many others that were new and never knew what to do or how to provide assistance.
First off, fix the parking lot! The parking lot by the lofts is absolutely terrible! Its practically not a parking lot more like a lopsided pile of rubble. Secondly, Maintenance is pretty bad. They basically do nothing until you nag them about it and itll take a couple tries before something gets fixed. Thirdly, the price of rent is ridiculous. Its located in Dearborn the rent should be half the price. It is far from a nice neighborhood. The mall next to it is terrible too. Dont bother going.
If I could give this place 0 stars I would. Staff seems really nice when you first meet them.... IT IS ALL FOR SHOW IT IS ALL FAKE. After the first few months everything went downhill. They will handout lease violation for the smallest things possible, they only want your money. Upon quarterly inspection, if you have 5 DISHES in your sink, be prepared for a lease warning/violation. The staff think they run the world here awful, do not send your kids here it is all money grab THEY ONLY WANT YOUR MONEY!!!!
This place is way too expensive for a college student. A lot of problems with the management team with not properly communicating to residents about issues going on with your particular apartment or anything else. I really wish I NEVER moved in here, but I am happy that I will be leaving next year.
I lived here one year ago. After checking out from the apartment, I should receive the security deposit back by check through the mail. However, I have been waiting for more than a year. Until today, I am still waiting. Even I go to the leasing office twice this month, and the check is still not ready. I remember one time I use the E-check to pay the rent. And I typed one number wrong of my account, which lead to the payment unsuccessful. I paid the penalty for the late fee for around $80 because of the three day late. I also got a letter from Union and the content is something like I need to pay the rent or I will go to the court. At that time, I didnt know I type the wrong one number on my Echeck.
Nice view, staff are friendly for the most part. Clean. Close proximity to the school. They host plenty of events that include activities and free food.Elevators always seem to have problems. A handful of maintenance issues (though the maintenance workers are very friendly and a quick to respond and usually fix the problem by the next day).
The Union at Dearborn could be a nice place to live but management chooses to make this place uninhabitable at times. There are lots of problems here that others have cited, but it really sucks here when you have loud neighbors. All semester I have dealt with neighbors that blast their tv so loud that I can hear it over my own tv. I tried to get this addressed. I will credit the quick response from the Community Assistant the first time I called, but they get no respect here as my neighbors were warned and turned the tv up louder. I called a second time and received no response, even though Im sure it probably would have done nothing to give them a second warning it would be nice to know that management has the residents back against noisy neighbors. Its ridiculous to me that I pay so much here and cant enjoy my own apartment because of my neighbors. I hope management does not take this comment as a dig against the community assistants because I honestly feel that they do an okay job. Id be happy to revise this review if anything changes around here.
My bathroom flooded and they had to work for 3 weeks ,everyday interrupting my sleep, to fix it. They had to remove a part of the wall and replace the toilet. After all that they didn’t pay me a single penny as a reimbursement and their excuse was is that I sometimes spill water. They also didn’t give me my deposit back. They didn’t even reply on that. They will try to fool u and take as much money as they can. The only reason I’m staying in the Union it’s because it’s the only place in Dearborn and the closest
After living here for a couple of months I have came to conclusion that this appartment complex is a joke and would not recommend living her at all. The staff here never gets requests done on time or you have to remind them multiple times before its done. The people that live here treat it like trash and there is always a mess everywhere and bathrooms destroyed. It is over priced and they dont stick with the agreements like the parking that is for the people that live here. They are in it just for the money and not to keep the people that live here happy. I would recommend living at the other appartment complexes that are near by.
The rooms are in great condition and well designed to prove affordable housing to the nearby University of Michigan: Dearborn campus. There are very few things I can complain about here at the Union, but if there were any improvements i would like to see it would be a little more nearby parking (I dont mind the walk in nice weather but during winter months it can be a struggle) and maybe an increase of equipment in the gym (but I am a frequent weight lifter). Overall my experience has been great at the Union in Dearborn.
The apartment and facilities are great, but the staff is so apathetic and they are incapable of answering basic questions. Maintenance doesnt come to fix even the most important damages (our lock on our front door which leads outside broke, so anybody could have walked in off the street) unless you call dozens of times and yell at them. Security doesnt care either - I called them TWICE on an extremely loud party at 4 am and they did not respond for a full hour and a half. Turns out they are friends with the people who were hosting the party so they just didnt stop it. The Union staff as a whole just does not care or want to help you and they make so many mistakes that its almost not worth the almost $800 my roommate and I BOTH pay each month. To top it all off, some of the things they advertise most prominently - DVR, HBO, Printing Stations, Gym, Lounge Areas - are in complete disrepair or not even present. The Printer didnt even work for an entire semester, and we just ended up buying our own. We do NOT have DVR or HBO despite their telling us that we did. Dont waste your money on this place.
Elevators never work, are broken for months at a time. My A/C has been broken for a month and they keep pushing back the date theyll have it fixed by. Parking is inconvenient. Many of the amenities they advertise (basketball court, computer printing, etc) are closed, broken, etc. Would not recommend to anyone. Also, they are currently giving people the chance to win $100 if they write a positive review on here, so keep that in mind when reading recent reviews.
I DO NOT recommend anyone leasing at the Union or any of their affiliates:-Elevators have been broken and not fixed for a few days.-In the winter the heat went out and they only gave you heaters if you complained about being absolutely freezing... and then took them back the very next day...-They are very unprofessional and are never clear with procedures-When you call they are like robots and say the same thing over and over when you call with a problem instead of being personable and solving the problem.-takes a few days for someone to come and fix something when you put in a maintenance request-NOT helpful at all, they dont care about you and your safety.. they just want your money-the gym is very small and does not have enough machines-rent is outrageous and not worth living in such a small space-they were in such a hurry with trying to finish in time that the units are not properly finished in a safe way.. and example of this is that the windows are poorly sealed so the condensation gets really bad and that causes mold to grow on the windowsill the granite counter tops were also not sealed properly and when you put anything wet on them it caused the counter tops to be discolored-theft is a huge issue....-they need more security-my car has been plowed in on multiple times and caused me to be late for work-not enough parking spots by the actual building.. and the next closest spots are on the other side of the building next to the union-washer and dryer units only take credit cards... cant use coins-fire alarms go off all the time.. even in the middle of the nightIm sure Im missing a lot of other things that are wrong with this place but Im sure everyone gets that this is not a good apartment complex to live at.
This pathetic place is actually offering residents 100$ visa gift cards for positive reviews 😂😂😂 Can a business stoop any lower than that? This place sucks. The management sucks. If you like being treated like trash then it is the perfect place for you. All they are good at are evicting people and making them pay rent even tho they no longer live there. And dont bother filing the rooms up with other people. They dont want people living here. They just want money.
Okay building, but absolutely horrible management and staff. My place was clogged when I first moved in, a couple of days later, my place flooded and management made no compromises to the situation. They moved me out three days later with no incentive and to a room that I didnt request.Every week the hallways are filled with beer bottles and puke. Also, The building management has done nothing to fix wifi services that they have provided within the rental agreement. Its been out for over a week now! And I have filled out MULTIPLE requests to fix our cable with no effort or even an update. In conclusion, Id not recommend this building to any body!
The place is garbage , the people who run the place are dumb and don’t know how to run the place. Maintenance at the union are literally the worst. If your ac unit is leaking wait 3 days before they come and fix it. Oh your room is flooded with water, ya just wait untill the next day. And the price of 750 you could do so much better
If I could give 0 stars I would. I used to work for this building as maintenance and have been a resident for 4 years. I have seen first hand how poorly they treat the residents, staff, and building in general. Even during this COVID-19 pandemic they are still trying to evict people who cannot pay due to the stay at home order, which is illegal during this time. They care more about money and cutting corners than the well being of the people who are there.
Didn’t like this place the second I moved in. First, it is overpriced for the average college student. They tried to charge me and another roommate for something that was left from past residents. Maintenance takes forever to complete requests, even in an emergency. Rude staff that doesn’t know what they’re doing half of the time. Roommate matching is terrible. I could go on and on. This place is just money hungryand not a decent place to live. I’m glad to finally move out.
The Union at Dearborn is a solid housing option for the following reasons:1. The price of monthly rent includes full utilities, cable, wifi, a fully furnished apartment, access to an exercise facility and half-basketball court, and 24 hour access to a study lounge/pool table/2 ping pong tables, and occasional programming such as a fourth of july bbq or a volleyball tournament. I know there has been some issues with the internet here, so take that with a grain of salt;2. The Union is across the street from campus, which makes the morning commute a bit easier;3. The Union leases apartments to college students from Wayne county colleges, and living within a few hundred feet from your friends is pretty cool and very convenient.I was asked to take part in a video advertising the Union at Dearborn to new UM-Dearborn students, which you can find on the Universitys Youtube channel. The University does own the apartment complex but has a vested interest in having students live there to create a residential feel to the campus. You will be hard pressed to find a main housing preference/option at another university that is better. Most schools have dormitories which are cramped, old, and poorly maintained. I applied to seven other schools besides UM-Dearborn and their preferred housing complex/dorms were nowhere near as spacious and filled with amenities as the Union.I give the Union at Dearborn five stars because of its convenience, and if you are coming to Dearborn as a new student, strongly consider living at the Union.
Please stay after from these people. My daughter was accepted to Umich for spring term and we went online to apply for the room which they indicate was available, but once she paid the deposit and fee they said there are no availability and they will refund. It is now April and no refund, several attempt to collect the refund via phone call and email was unfruitful. This put us off of our child furthering their studies at U of M Dearbon. Any parents thinking of registering your child, please stay away, they are crooks. We are talking to a lawyer and have to go to a small claims court to get back our money. Very disappointed! and I will be writing a letter to the president of the school and anyone that I can get to; how can a school allowing people like this to do business with their students, parents should be able to trust the school they sent their precious children to.
This is a danger place for kids to live there. One resident was mobbed by three African young men in side of the building a few months ago. The Union not only not be responsible for this event, but also have hid the event to their residents. In addition, they controlled the review system. So, you can only see good reviews in their webpage.
I could write a book about the horrors of this place. All you need to know is you will be smelling the poop and cigarettes of your neighbors as the exiting ventilation from their bathroom enter yours through your fan; however, if you decide to keep your fan running, you will be kept miserable not by the stink, but by the bloody screeching molesting your eardrums 24/7. So move in to the union. You get to decide whether you want to be driven insane by the smell, or the sound while they absolutely rape your bank account.P.S. the management is literally the main characters from workaholics (mentally deranged), but they are much much more mean.
Two years ago around Halloween I got mugged by a group of guys and the Union did absolutely nothing about it! Security is absolutely horrible, they did nothing. Well actually they didnt do nothing... they did EVERYTHING to cover it up. When the police asked for the surveillance videos they agreed to it, but never actually provided the video to them. They met with me once, telling me that they will do their best to help find these guys but I guess their best is doing nothing and sweeping it under the rug.PS: I heard they were offering a chance to win a $100 for good reviews, which thus loses the credibility of those recent positive reviews since it will be highly biased. Therefore, I wanted to post a honest review now that I am no longer living under their roof and that they cant get on my back for posting a negative review.PPS: Two of my friends got their car stolen from the Unions parking lot and they didnt do anything about it. Just a fyi
Horribly behaved staff. Threaten you with being kicked out and taking you to court for being late on your rent once. They are also now handing out $100 gift cards for writing good reviews on here. They are literally bribing you to write good reviews now. DONT PROMOTE A SHADY AND CORRUPT ACTING BUSINESS LIKE THEM JUST FOR A VISA GIFT CARD.
I would write a long paragraph about the horrors of this place, but there are tons of other reviews that has done it for me. Homeless people living in the victors den, the bathrooms are literally the absolute worse, expect to pay 40k a year to live here. Go to hell you money hungry corperation
Emailed stating was denied for my application less than 2 weeks after applying. Now 2 months later they sent a bill for possible collections. The place doesn’t care that’s why I’m they pay for good reviews. Guess I’ll see them in court. Guess they dont know emails are legally binding.
I wish I could give it zero stars. This place is overpriced and corrupt and run by mean-spirited people. Security cameras dont work, neither do printers. Gym equipment doesnt work. Its in a bad neighborhood, and some pretty shady people live here, loud neighbors, drug addicts. Avoid this place at all costs!
First of all, I was stuck in the elevators 10 times this semester and was late to 10 classes and missed 10 different test! So not only am I wasting my time and money here but Im wasting my time and money at school! Now Im MAD! Please See ME! ASAP OR CATCH ME OUTSIDE! Thank you, bye.
The worst place ever, they dont care about whats going on and will not going to waste their time looking, the general manager Jakie is the worst manager ever, I told her about the printers which were not working since August 2016, she told me she ordered some supplies to fix it till now November 2016 and the printers are not working, the rent is expensive, the maintenance is the worst, and even the market is ridiculously over priced for low quality groceries.

2022-01-10The potential is there for the Union but disappointing. The apartments are reasonably priced, spacious for a college rooming situation, and updated. The individual rooms are nice and provide comfortable amount of space for one person. Unfortunately, they promote this as college living with social events and mixers. Even during COVID the apartment tours promoted extensive events, free food, mixers, activities. My daughter has lived there for 5 months and is disappointed at the almost total lack of any events other than a failed attempt at a Halloween party and door decorating competition. Also, room matching profile was a joke. Wanted Freshmen area with her and best friend in rooms meant to share a bathroom. Placed nowhere near Freshman area or bathroom sharing placement. Not a huge deal but DONT promote the Union as something it is not. So far, the students havent experienced any kind of dorm or college experience. It is simply 4 girls living in an apartment!

2021-11-06This place is a complete DUMP.....it was fine when my daughter first moved in a couple of years ago, but the current management is a joke. The halls are littered with trash (including most recently pads/tampons), beer pong parties going on at the end of her hallway, filthy conditions, trash overflowing - and this is every day, not just after a big sporting event or holiday. No response from the manager after I tried to contact him multiple times. They obviously dont care.....just want our money. Avoid this place at all costs.

2022-04-18Trust me, paying over 700 dollars is not worth it here. They don’t care about they’re residents. I freeze everyday because the heater is not working. Plus, the maintenance takes 3 weeks to come and fix any issue you have. Recommend going somewhere else to live.

2022-03-29Above average college housing in my opinion. I have lived here 3 years now and haven’t had many issues at all. I have lived in both a 4x4 and a loft so I’ve been able to experience both sides of the spectrum. Don’t expect to study on the weekend, people have parties which is to be expected of college students. The power went out this summer for 3 full days and all of my food went bad and there wasn’t anything the union could offer me to reimburse me. In addition, it is quite pricey but the connivence factor was a big selling feature for me. The union has been quick with maintenance requests and my wifi has been great in my room this year. Definitely college living but it is what you should expect. The rooms are definitely updated and much nicer than some other places available for rent nearby. I’d definitely recommend the union for people who want a conveniently located college experience.

2022-02-11I have a child that currently lives at the Union and it has been horrible. We tried countless times to work with Jordan and DJ regarding a noise complaint from the apartment above hers. The police had been called over 10 times the manager at the union was upset that the police had been called, but they were unable to address the problem. So the manager is now punishing the people who complained by making them move not to mention they are of color. I called as a parent they will not meet with me or take my call only sent a email that what he says goes. It’s sad to know the management can’t manage. All the apartments around the room have been complaining about them but management did nothing. If you check with the Dearborn Police department there are so many complaints you need a notebook to put them in

2021-11-12Anyone who is considering this place should seriously reconsider. I made the mistake of ignoring all the bad reviews in hopes that they would make proper adjustments this year. The day I moved in I encountered many preventable issues. First off, my room was filthy upon entering it with surface level cleaning and makeshift repairs. Next, my air conditioning would not work at all, thus forcing me to boil in my room for nearly a week. They have 1 maintenance man doing the bulk of repairs which means if something isn’t working in your apartment you’ll be waiting for an excessive period of time before having it fixed. The cleanliness of this building is inexcusable as the hallways are filled with trash most of the time. Also the ventilation in this building is so poor that you can’t even cook a meal without the smoke alarms going off. If you need reliable internet access do not expect it at the Union. The wifi goes in and out on a daily basis and has a weak connection. Most of the people who live here have had issues and agree that this place is a complete scam. The people in management are very young so it doesn’t surprise me that they are inept to run such a large complex. Upon first impression they are exceedingly friendly, and personable but behind the scenes they do very little to help their residents with their issues. If you encounter any problem the office will merely take a message with no intention of ever getting back to you regarding the problem. The union had great potential and it’s unfortunate that poor management has caused it to become such a joke. This place is definitely a facade and I hope everyone is able to see it for what it really is.

2021-10-28To begin, on August 31st the assigned move in date: our apartment was disgusting as there was cigarette burns in the sofa that needed to be replaced, stains all over the floor, old food left in the refrigerator, puke smell, and spider webs everywhere. Our apartment needed to be deep cleaned during the time my roommates and I were moving in, instead of it being done prior to our arrival. Following that incident, we have collectively had to make several maintenance complaints for the same common issues: Deep Cleaning in the Rooms/Bathrooms/Shared Area, HVAC Cleaning, Carpet Cleaning, ETC. We had to indicate our issues as high maintenance because we along waited for the issues to be resolved but the issues weren’t starting to be done until about two weeks into our move. To make matters worse, my roommates and I ended up getting sick with a respiratory tract infection and pneumonia and were hospitalized due to the lack of ventilation, mold infestation in the HVAC units in our apartment, and the uncleanliness throughout the hallways. We indicated to several members in the office that we had contracted these illnesses and that our apartment needed to thoroughly be cleaned. Several weeks in, we were still suffering from our illnesses with no compliance from the maintenance or members of the office to handle the issues. So my roommates and I decided to take matters into our own hands and test for mold within our apartment. There was black mold and several other species of mold confirmed throughout our apartment. Once again informing the staff and the maintenance about the mold in our apartment, two months went by and the issue wasn’t resolved properly, and to this date October 28th, after ongoing maintenance neglect we have tried to get reimbursed our money and still nothing has been done in our apartment to ensure the health of my roommates and I.

2021-11-05My air conditioner has been broken for two month. it was broken since the first day I moved in. I submitted maintenance request and no one ever com to fix it. also my order will disappear periodically. I visited the leasing office so many times. they are just being polite but never being helpful. just keep telling me that they have notified maintainence team but never get reply. they all just want to get rid of the responsibility and no one would do what they suppose to do.The internet is also bad. I have experienced so many times that the internet broken when I have zoom meetings. The pumping system is also bad. You would experience multiple time shortage of water during a year.other information:based my roommates information, if your sink is broken they will come to fix it after 2 month.if u are a potential resident. Please do not consider here.

2021-07-24Lived here nearly two years. Wanted out after only one month. WiFi did not work consistently for a single week, hallways smelled terrible and were not cleaned, management always were unavailable Friday-Sunday and did not take care of major building issues before that time so we were very often stranded. No security in mailroom, parcels still left on the ground despite the package system they rave about (which is now a mandatory fee every month whether you apply to it or not). Laundry machines do not work and they do not bother to fix them. Facilities they claim to have public like gyms are not open even to residents. Did I mention no working WiFi but that you are still paying for it in your rent? You are better off where you are, even if where you are is a hole in the ground. There are more things I would like to say, but I am currently about to move residence and have been advised against leaving on hostile terms. That being said, sayonara!

2021-05-24I have lived at the Union at Dearborn for three years now while attending U of M Dearborn. I can honestly say that this is by far the best place for any college kid to live. The management staff is accommodating when they are able to be, while still maintaining the professionalism necessary to run a student-housing complex. The property is constantly being upgraded to provide the best experience for students, and with the pandemic coming to an end I cannot be more excited to see what is in store for this property. I am from California so during my time at school the Union has really become like my second home. Overall, while the price may be on the higher end, when considering the access to campus, complete amenities, and unbelievable college experience, there is no place I would rather be as a college student.
