I had a rather unpleasant experience at this shop. My barber was nice enough, but when she went to shave the back of my neck, she cut me three times with the straight razor. One cut was rather deep. Honestly, I dont care so much about the fact that she cut me, but I do care that she never admitted to doing so. She just acted like nothing happened. A simple apology would have sufficed especially since I tipped her a decent amount.
I must admit that although I have lived abroad for a significant portion of my adult life Id never had a hot shave & beard trim prior to this. It turned out great and I FEEL so much better after professionally reshaping my pandemic beard, lol.It was an all around nice experience with much better parking access than I had anticipated.
Good location with great staff. Old-school style barbershop with modern touches in the perfect place. Amanda was my barber, with lack of words on how to explain what I wanted done she figured it out and surpassed my expectations. Definitely recommend her to all my friends. Looking forward to seeing her again!
Gina is my hair stylist. She does her work with a smile. Very friendly and does a great job! Have sent her several friends as referrals. Union Barber is clean and allows for proper social distancing. All staff members wear PPE equipment and keep the shop very clean! Keep up the good work!
Great place for a haircut! Ask for Rhonda, she is super skilled and an great conversation too. Once you get on her chair you dont want to change for another!

I was about 10 minutes late for my appointment, which is totally on me, but even after apologizing and making sure they had time for my haircut they still acted like I was a problem. They said something close to Its fine, but in the future just dont let it happen again which didnt sound very fine to me. It made me feel unwelcome over something I had no control over. The haircut itself took nearly an hour and wasnt even close to what I asked for (too short so it wasnt fixable). The place has a cool theme and I liked the free drinks. But no.
They really take the time to get to know you and do a quality job styling and cutting your hair. Gina is my regular stylist, and she always has high attention to detail. The complimentary beverages are also a nice perk.
This is my regular barber shop, but last time I had to book with a new girl called Gina who offered to do a small cuts to my beard while she was doing my hair. It took her no more than a minute but still charged me the full amount for a regular beard trim!!! I was really mad but una hurry so I didn’t want to make a big deal out of it. Will definitely not be booking with her again!!If you do go, pay attention to who you book with. Rhonda is amazing and will only be letting her take care of me from now on!
Been a loyal customer from the beginning and am a firm believer of paying for quality service. Since Ive been getting my haircut at Union, I always get compliments on my hair. If you love a great haircut, fade, hot leather neck shave, classic barbershop environment, conversation, etc. look no further because this place delivers each and everytime for even the pickiest hair critics. The staff is very friendly and extremely accommodating, offering a coke, water, lollipops for the kids and complimentary combs as soon as you walk through the door. Walk-ins are available but I strongly suggest that you make sure to book your appointments on their website and in a timely manner because these barbers book fast. My go to barber for years has been Lauren because she is a perfectionist and from the first day since Ive sat in her chair, I have always left more than satisfied with my haircut, the conversation, the service, and she has always given me the exact look I want. The times I havent been able to book with Lauren, I always had the confidence in the rest of the staff to come through in the clutch. Sarah and Sergio are my other go to barbers who havent let me down yet.
I cant thank Jordan enough for the beard trim! I had been looking for a barber that would get it right and Im pleased to say that the search is now over. Jordan will listen to your requests and take his time to make sure its done right.First of all, my appointment was 5:30 and he was ready on time (no need to wait). He was very friendly and took all necessary precautions (due to covid) before getting started. He asked me what I wanted to do to my beard at first and every now and then would stop to ask if the length was ok or if I wanted a bit more trimmed down. This was great because last time I tried a new barber they cut my beard WAY shorter than I had asked for and it took forever to grow back.In conclusion, if you want a good beard trim, great attention and fair prices, Union Barber is the place to go! (Dont forget to book with Jordan!)
Switched barbers and decided to make an appointment with Sergio based on reviews. He did a great job and the complimentary drink was a nice touch! With the reasonable prices, I’ll be back!
The barber shop provides a nice atmosphere and the store hours make it easy to get in for an appointment. Gina does a great job and she is always fun to have a conversation with.

I have visited barbershops all over the world and Union Barber is my favorite in Detroit since I have returned to the Motor City. I have been back to see Amanda Thomas multiple times as she is skilled beyond her years with classic technigue, all the right clippers and a keen eye - an overall amazing experience - complete with the essential oil products that you would expect from a world class barber. Cheers to Amanda and this great business!
Got me in on short notice on a Sunday afternoon. Place is clean and nice, service was great, and the barbers were friendly. Adrian took his time and did a great job on my hair. Would recommend!
A fine old-fashioned atmosphere with kind cuts of all types. I had my beard & mustache reshaped and it turned out great. I recommend them.
This barber shop is an awful place to work you’ll be constantly criticized for your work because it’ll never be to the owner Matt /“Rachel “operation manager” standards. If you come across an emergency the manager will never be considerate to you. And if you have kids DON’T EVEN ATTEMPT to work here they could careless if something comes up with your child. The barbers here are AMAZING and their work is awesome they get 5 stars but working there personally gets zero but I have to put at least one to post this review.
Amanda T. was a great stylist. Suggested better ways for the final look. She definitely has the experience and skills. She crushed the haircut. Totally worth the 30 minute drive to Birmingham.

2022-05-09Spencer cut my 2y/o sons hair and NAILED IT. My son has a lot of hair and has had a lot of haircuts, but Spencer at Union Barber-Birmingham gave him by far the best haircut hes ever had. To note, good things take time, and Spencer took at least 30 minutes to perfect my sons haircut. My son was a champ, but he caught him on a good day :-) We will certainly be loyal clients of Spencers.

My hairs hard to cut, maintain and style.However Its absolutely no problem for Caleb. 5* barber right there.Always have great conversations when I get in the chair with him. They have great appointment booking via their website, so its simple to select a day and time to reserve your slot! Beats waiting in a normal barber shop line! 2021-03-29I always see Morgan and I always get a great haircut and good time! The staff is always incredibly friendly and the place always looks clean and professional. Ive even got several of my friends to start to come to Union Barber instead of their old barbers. Cant say enough good things about the place!
