Each person communicated quickly and effectively with all the parties - my insurance company, the car rental car company and me. Additionally, the Uptown office and customer waiting room radiates the values of quality and care that the staff and the organization clearly live. Its a pleasure to be inside the office. The shop itself is clean, comfortable, and - although not how Id usually describe an auto shop - fun. The team was friendly, professional, and ensured I was well taken care of, from offering me coffee or tea to giving me a ride home. The repair itself was perfect, you wouldnt even be able to tell where the damage was before. Plus, they cleaned my whole car and put air in the tires!Genuinely, I was extremely impressed by the level of customer service and care that they showed me every step of the way.

Comment: My experience recently with Uptown was incredibly good. They were friendly, helpful, and so efficient. I was quite surprised having used another shop a couple of years ago AND that was a very discouraging place, especially for similar damages (my car was hit in or around the drivers door). That last body shop took 3 to 4 months to complete the repairs. Whereas this time, Uptown only took less than a month. Initially, they walked me through the process AND called the Rental Agency to drop off & pick me up. In fact, they made the entire experience amazingly pleasant, both in getting the work done, and in regarding my inconvenience, including disabilities. Overall, I would absolutely recommend this shop for repairs, and accessibility considerations, being very easy to find.

The quality of their work is consistently excellent. I just picked up my car after having had it sideswiped when it was parked and it needed a lot of work. It now looks brand new! Their customer service is extraordinary also. They dealt with AAA, arranged for a rental, kept in touch, and made the whole situation as stress free as possible. They also have a unique special touch: the shop has a professional espresso machine and they will make you a cappuccino while you wait. I hope they stay in business forever as I never want to have to go anywhere else! Its such a relief for me to know that when I need body work on my car, which is inherently stressful, that I can count on them.

Comment: OMG. Can you say honest, genuine, and “feels like family” about a body shop?? Seriously, stop looking and take your car here. This was my 3rd estimate for a small repair on my 2014 Mercedes Wagon and they were so transparent and honest. The other two shops were corporate and impersonal, let alone more pricey. This shop said that their computer was showing it was a more involved process than it actually should be. That they would try to save me time and money. After the part arrived, they ended up doing the repair while I waited! Really nice clean shop. And the people are so genuine. Why can’t more Oakland business be like this role model of a body shop? I will end with one odd sentiment I had after I left: I left with a weird desire to apply for a job here. Really. I am fully employed at my dream job (I’m a music composer) and I still felt like ‘man, it would probably be real pleasant to work here even if I have zero experience in the car body world’. Throughout the process, they were honest, fair, responsive, and generous. From giving my spouse a ride home so she could make a work call in time to handling all negotiations with our insurance, they consistently made us feel valued as customers and - sounds silly to say - fellow human beings. For example, when they learned that we were paying out of pocket for the rental car, they negotiated a lower rate with the rental agency! I am happy with the quality of their work, more than pleased with the value, and genuinely impressed by their customer service -- including Giovanna, who is just the best. Comment: For the past 29 years, Uptown has been the only place Ive gone for auto body repairs on my cars. Giovanna and Mike and the staff at Uptown are polite, professional, friendly, and welcoming. The only time I have been disappointed was when my insurance co. tried directing me to another facility where they were disrespectful. For a time, my insurance co. did not like Uptown, they repair cars back to how they were, not cheaply to get them out the door. Uptown dealt with my insurance co. and made sure I had lasting repairs. I retired my 1989 Mitsubishi Galant recently, it still looked good because Uptown always does an excellent job.

Recently my car tire had a bizarre encounter in Oakland with a wire coil laying across 51st Street at twilight, which had a spike at one end that embedded in the tire. The coil whipped around furiously against the side and back of the car and shattered our back window. No harm to me, but the car was a mess. I called Giovanna (very late afternoon) and within 10 minutes her trusted tow truck company arrived to get the car and drop me off near my home. The team then took over and we got our 2014 car back looking brand new... as if it just came out of the showroom!

Comment: Update: On 8/22/23 I brought my car to Uptown Body & Fender, and was surprised by their failure to communicate as it was costly, disruptive and a very bad customer experience.Initially they said my car would be ready in a couple of days and definitely in time for either a drop off or pick up by Friday 8/11 and no later than Monday 8/14 as that’s when the detail job was scheduled at Best Detail in Broadway. We were all clear on this plan before I left.The next day Uptown calls to inform me that there’s damage done to the inside foam of the bumper, and that would cost me another $600. I asked for an email w/photos and the new estimate to share them with the responsible party paying for my repairs before agreeing to proceed. I responded within the hour to proceed with ordering the additional part to continue with the repairs as scheduled.It’s now a week later, 8/16 and I I haven’t heard anything from Uptown, but by now my car should either be at Best Detail for detailing or almost finished with the detail. So I call Uptown and I’m told there’s yet another hiccup as there was an issue with the used bumper ordered last week and instead of a used part, we have to go with a new one.What I take exception with is…1. The failure to communicate any of this to me without me having to call Uptown. And. 2. What’s the status now w/my detail job as all parties were in agreement that my car would be finished by Uptown and delivered to Best Detail no later than 8/14. The response was “I had no idea this was the plan, but let me call Jose at Best Detail and get back to you.” Huh??Turns out Best Detail called Uptown asking why they haven’t received my car and what’s the status? It was then decided (again, without my knowledge) that Best Detail would arrange to get my car before the new bumper arrived and at least Best Detail can complete their detail job.. At least Best Detail didn’t disappoint and delivered as promised with an AMAZING interior/exterior detail job!What I’m also taken aback by is that the person communicating with me at Uptown had absolutely no idea my car was not in their possession for a period of time and that no one from Uptown thought it was important to communicate this to me nor Steve until I called to inquire- (Steve did apologize sincerely for all the mishaps on the phone at this time fyi) As a result, I’m without a car for two full weekends as when Uptown finally completed the work late Friday afternoon I was already out of town in Napa proceeding with my weekend plans.The final straw came today when I came to pick up my car and was instructed to inspect the car and let them know if I had any concerns. The car had so much dust on it, I couldn’t properly inspect all of the work done by both shops so I requested that someone clean the car up. It’s the little things!This is not the customer experience I’ve come to expect from Uptown; they truly dropped the ball with their inability to effectively communicate across all parties. Additionally, nothing was even offered up monetarily as a means of an apology for all of the mishaps and inconvenience, and I did ask but was told that decision lies with the owners Mike or Giovanna, however by this point I shouldn’t even have to ask, it should be offered. Again, a very disappointing customer experience this time around.—————————-I recently decided to take my car to Uptown Body & Fender to be serviced after reading their reviews. Comment: Whenever I’ve needed to have bodywork done on one of my family cars over many years, I always took them to Uptown. The experience has always been great. My recent experience is no exception. Recently, my daughter’s car was sideswiped and needed extensive work on the left side of the car including replacement of the front bumper and fender and repair of the front and rear door. Giovanna’s staff provided me with an estimate and worked with my insurance company to get the repair work covered so I only had to pay the deductible. During their inspection of the front bumper, they noticed a hole caused by a hammer that hit the bumper while my daughter was driving on the freeway. I had filed a claim to repair it but let it expire. On closer examination of the bumper, the estimator found damage to the energy absorber and impact bar which are behind the bumper. They contacted me and recommended I replace these parts. I agreed to pay for the replacement, not expecting the insurance company to cover the cost. I was a little surprised, but they were able to get the insurance to cover replacement of the parts. I only had to pay the deductible. I’m very pleased with the work they did. The car looks great, and I feel better that replacing the parts behind the bumper provides better protection in the event of a collision. As usual, Giovanna and her staff were pleasant and easy to work with. I think they make the hassle of getting car body work done as painless as possible.

Comment: I had my catalytic converter stolen from my prius and it was towed to Uptown. It is remarkably clean, friendly and not a speck of dust or grit anywhere. I have been there for art and social events and so felt good about it being a business that contributes so much to the community.Unfortunately the parts are on back order and I was given a repair date 3 months in advance. Sigh, urban life... Uptown was able to locate an after market part and get me back into my car within 2 months. My car was returned clean and detailed.My car started to have the engine light go on the day after I got it back. They were very responsive and hooked me up with a great mechanic. It turned out the problem was unrelated to the work they had done and it was coincidental that it happened right after pickup. They demonstrated their willingness to look into and correct if a problem arises after they have done work. The staffs sympathy and good humor was welcome in the stress of all this. Comment: I was referred to Uptown through my insurer Geico after my car was stolen and damaged, and I have to say the experience was everything you could hope for in a body shop. Their space itself is beautiful—unusual in this sector—the customer communication is excellent, and I was very happy with the work itself. They handled all billing with Geico direct and even took my rental car and had it returned. When my car was recovered it was filthy and filled with all kinds of junk and debris, including drug paraphernalia, which I assumed they would just dispose of. Instead they carefully detailed my car interior and put everything neatly into boxes in the trunk. While this initially felt odd and meant I had to deal with throwing it all out, in retrospect I appreciated that they they respected that any of it could have been my property and treated it without judgement as such. There was some mechanical issues after the repair was done, but they addressed it quickly, came and picked up the car, and got us a rental the same day. UB&F was very communicative through the whole process, dealt directly with insurance so we didn’t have to be the middle man, held our car over the holidays while we were out of town, and made our car look brand new. Uptown did a great job and they even touched up a couple of small random scratches/chips so they looked better & won’t rust.The job ended up taking 2 weeks (was estimated to be 1) mostly because they had to wait for insurance approval for some additional damage they found.My only minor complaint is that I only ever proactively received 1 call telling me there was a delay. It is so unique that it is hard to describe .....Like how many body shops have professional art work on the walls and in the office/waiting area? They are so customer centered to assure we are comfortable and understand all of whats going on. They are organized, efficient, took care of calls to rental car company, and practice all virus safety measures.The especially exceptional experience for this minor bumper repair is that they discovered the reinforcement/impact bar was damaged under rear bumper, which is a safety issue. I had insurance paid work done on the front bumper (relatively minor repair of a tear due to catching the corner on a razor sharp piece if metal). While my ride was in the shop, I had the rear bumper re-painted and paid out of pocket. It was full of gouges and dings. The work I paid for was fairly priced (I had shopped around) and beautifully executed. The shop also did little nice things like straighten out my bent license plate and affix it securely to the car. They also removed every little scuff and grease spot everywhere, not just in the repaired areas. My car was gleaming when I picked it up. The work has a lifetime warranty, long as I own the car! Sweet! Oh, and the customer service was excellent. Nice folks. Attentive and responsive. When my car took a little longer than expected, they apologized and then covered the cost of my rental for (4) days. Very professional. Rodrigo was especially friendly, knowledgeable of cars and the whole insurance process. Hes very experienced. Liked their work so much Im getting another quote to fix the side runner bumper which has curb rash and scratched paint.

Comment: The insurance company ended up totaling my car so I didnt have any work done, but all of the interactions I had with the staff at Uptown Body and Fender prior to that decision were fantastic. They totally took care of me, made sure I understood the next steps, and were patient while the insurance company took ages to come to a decision. I have no doubt that this professional and detailed experience would carry through the repairs.

Comment: Great energy from this body shop. They were very organized and professional while providing high quality repairs. Ive had previous work done on my car where the paint was not matched completely, but Uptown really did a just about perfect match! I cant even tell the difference. They even replaced my burnt out headlight bulb without me asking. I would definitely choose them for future repairs, although Im hoping that wont be necessary!

Comment: As always, my experience and service here was exceptional. My car was totaled in front of my house and I had it towed to Uptown, who confirmed that it could not be repaired. Giovanna and her staff were graciously generous with their advice as to how to handle the claim in my unusual circumstance here, what to ask for and then how to dispose of my ruined vehicle. And, they were not even repairing the car for me. She went above and beyond the call of duty here and I am grateful for her advice and support. I don’t and wouldnt take my cars anywhere else!
