Love this place. Would give it a 5 only if the lake were cleaner. The price to get in as good they do have senior discounts. Its very close to my house and its not really that crowded. No grills allowed on the beach however you can bring coolers and sandwiches. But up above the beach they do have a very nice park where you can barbecue and theres places for the kids to run around and they have three or four bathrooms. Also, at the lake itself they do have bathrooms down there by the beach not out houses. I just wish it was cleaner but because youre so many boats on the lake it does get dirty but thats nothing that nice hot shower when you get home couldnt fix. Worth coming to
With two play structures, lots of grass and a lakeside beach, this place has lots to offer at a low entry cost. For $7 I brought my van loaded with 9 children and drove through the peaceful park til we got to the end where we walked down a hill to a small but not too small beach. There were floating docks for us to jump off into a shallower ropes off area or a larger deeper roped off area. We had a blast in the water and loved the freedom to do flips without a lifeguard blowing their whistle to stop our fun. The docks were large enough for swimmers to jump off of and for sunbathers to rest in peace off to the left side. There was some shade to sit in when not in the water. At some point we will have to go again. Ive already recommended this place to a friend.
I enjoyed my time in there but cant ignore some obstacles I had. Cash only at the door, which I think not okay. I needed to drive 20 more minutes to withdraw some money. We had a family grill and spent some time with my son in the playground. It could have been a little cleaner. Then we went to the beach, which was the worst part of the day. It was not even close to being clean :( Still, it was my 18-months’ first time and he enjoyed it very much. If you expect a clean playground and beach, I don’t think Van Buren Park Beach is the right place.
***PLEASE READ PRIOR TO ARRIVAL***Update: as of 6/24 the gates were open.(DISCLAIMER: I am not an employee or any sort of representative for Van Buren parks of any other public entity regarding management of this place)As of 6/16/2020 at 2:05PM, the gates for entrance to the park are CLOSED. Getting to the beach requires you to park at the park entrance and walk just over a mile to the beach. Please plan accordingly if you plan on bringing equipment or children as that will require different things.Check with park management or the city to inquire about when these gates will be open.I exercise at this park regularly. When I notice the gates are open, I will revisit this review and provide it 5-stars.
FYI - Beach is very small (has a 50-person limit) so you may not be allowed in if its filled up on hot days. Also, the beach area is not totally flat - it slopes up into the side of a hill, so laying flat to catch some rays is pretty much out of the question if its crowded. There was a mix of kids & people of all ages, so that was nice for people-watching. Theres a sand bar not too far out in the water where people anchor their boats, play music & party, so its possible to make new friends if youre so inclined. All in all though, it was just an okay experience for me. I prefer a larger beach where people can spread out. Also, the water smelled fishy & had a lot of natural debris floating in it (leaves, moss, seaweed) which I dont enjoy. IMO, the water at Belle Isle Beach & Metro Beach was much clearer & odor-free - you just have to step over the vegetation that washes up on the shoreline at Metro!
Its local and a good price. However the beach itself is small and lots of junk in the water.. But its a lake thats what you get. My aon loved it. The swimming area is roped off amd doesnt get too deep. Great for kids but gets crowded. The play area is really nice lots of room to run and play bathrooms near by and lots of pavilions and treea for shade
Taking a break from dropping friends off at the airport, we thought we would visit a local beach to relax for a minute. It was outrageously priced to get in. The attendant was unfriendly and provided us with a useless map. Somehow, we found the beach. Parking was inconveniently located at the top of a hill, requiring us to walk down rough and unsafe terrain. So, I chose to temporarily park closer to help my wife down to the beach with her sprained ankle. We were quite disappointed with the beach. It was not well maintained. Coming back up the hill, we found a dutiful law enforcement official eagerly writing us a ticket. As every other peace officer, he had the latitude to consider the context. Although it was clear that there were no other cars in the park and my wife was limping to the car, he took the opportunity to smugly exercise his position of power. He asked me to explain my reason for coming to the state of MI from Indiana. I was respectful. He smiled, handed me a ticket, and said that will be $130. This is the type of conduct that sours visitors, invites negative attitudes toward police, and causes folks like us to resolve to avoid ever considering Michigan as a future travel destination.
Its not a big beach, but it is all we got in Belleville. They just redid the sand, which is great because before they redid the sand it looked like hepatitis hideaway .Much better now. Happy to see that maintenence has improved. The rest of the park is nice, and has always been quiet and peaceful. It has 5 or 6 pavilions throughout the park that are nice for family gatherings and cook outs, just get there early.Play areas, walking paths, a big sledding hill in the winter all make this a nice attraction in the Belleville area.
Clean...Quite..Quality of Service is high ..they check on you every hour and change the trash back ..fantastic views greeny serounded by water, beaches, soccer fields, kids play ground and boats lunchers so we every body including kids too had traffic and fantasti time and also we did clean our mess because it takes 2..everybody was ask me about this peace of art park and make it # one future choice even better than metro park .Thank you Van Buren Township for such effort......Sabir Khogali

2022-02-27Enjoyed the beach and park. Easily accessible, the park has plenty of room and shade. Access to B.B.Q. grills. The beach is small but is clean, has very clean bathrooms and great for children. During the summer, you will always find boats tied off close to shore.

2022-06-242019 = BEST SANDI BEACH in Southeast, MI!2020 = the park was shut down all summer due to COXID.2021 = the park was shut down again due to construction.2022 = HORRIBLE!!! The sandy Beech is gone! Its hard as a rock, overgrown with weeds, full of rocks and the water is gross. The rope to keep swimmers separate from the boaters is gone, boats and jet skies are right in the swimming area full of kids! The retaining wall is collapsing!! What happened?? The only improvement I could see the construction crew made was a bike path.PLEASE FIX THE BEECH AREA! If its an issue is money, I would love to help raise money for repair and upgrades!!

2022-05-01The park is open. There is a nice walking path around the park. About 3/4 of a mile. It has a couple pavilions. The park also has a few BBQ grills standing around.
