Comment: Upon arriving with my two sons, the person in charge displayed a poor attitude, maintaining a strict business demeanor with a lack of customer relations. After filling out the form and initialing each of the 19 rules, he remarked, dont make me add a 20th. We requested the smallest electric boat, priced at $67 in cash. After confirming the small boat upon my inquiry about the cash discount, he ordered us to wait at the end of a short dock.While walking towards the docks end, a woman yelled for us to stop and not proceed. When she brought the boat around, it didnt resemble the one I had requested based on the photo. I asked, Is this the $67 boat? and she affirmed it was. Upon our return, a different woman at the kiosk attempted to charge us for a larger boat. I insisted on the $67 boat, but she, in a rude tone, claimed I had taken out the bigger boat, therefore, I had to pay for it. I let he know what the women who gave us the boat said and her only response was, “she’s new and doesn’t know”. I requested to speak with the person I rented from and waited for him, prompting her to rudely ask for my ID back.Upon his return, he exhibited frustration. He too tried charging for the larger boat saying, “well that’s the boat you took so you have to pay for it”. I stood my ground on the issue as I budgeted this outing with the boys based on the $67 cash boat. He huffed and puffed then reluctantly instructed the women to charge me for the other boat. In a fit of annoyance, he decided to just handle the transaction himself, tossing my change at me. Whether due to incompetence or an intentional switch, the service was subpar and disappointing.

Comment: If you go on a nice sunny weekend there will be a wait. We waited about an hour for a paddle boat but the experience was still fun. They have a cute dragon, swan and rubber ducky paddle boats and lots of other boat rental options. Prices are reasonable. It’s a fun place to visit on a nice day in a great location.

Comment: They gave my parents an incredibly narrow canoe and its plastic not wooden. My parents are a bit chubby so it was very difficult for them to fit in the boat and they were worried and nervous that the boat would shift. After they left the workers offered if they wanted a bigger canoe and it was too late they had already rowed away. They could have offered from the start when they saw them struggling. Second my parents came back early because they just felt too nervous being in the small thin boat so they only took 10 minutes of the 1 hour paid for. The workers told us to ask some older white woman working the register to ask for a swan boat and she said no they dont switch or trade so we basically wasted all that money and we did not get to use up all of our time it was a rip off. And definitely lack of communication with employee and employer because the workers said just to ask that rude older white woman that we can switch because of the situation and that rude woman just flat out refused us and said no trades so we pretty much left feeling swindled out of our 50$. They overprice the rentals and it is not worth it if they do not care to accomodate the customers under circumstances that occur rarely if not ever. It wouldnt have cost them to have done the trade they were already paid for the hour and the swan ride cost LESS than what we had paid for which was the canoe. I have tried way better boat rental places that charge half their prices. Just a heads up for any family looking for activites to do, better not to go to places like this. Left us with a bad experience.

Comment: They need to work on their organization and efficiency. They should have someone go down the line, hand out paperwork, make a list of who wants what, then come back and take the people whos equipment is ready and those whos isnt maybe take their number and call them when its ready or maybe just wait till their up. Like how restaurants are doing things. Theyd make more money that way and not lose people because they have to wait in line forever. Add more rentals out on the water.Also get an actual paddle board, the Ocean Kayak ones arent great, those are the ones with the separate foot wells and not just a flat platform to stand on.

Comment: Love this place. My husband and I celebrated our marriage anniversary here this past Sunday and it was their first week since receiving their swan boats. We’ve rode the swan boats in echo park at night, but this experience I feel was way better. The swans don’t have lights on them but the view during the day was magnificent. You have the entire harbor to explore and paddle. The boat is spacious and can carry up to 4 people (2 in the front, 2 in the back). We went on a Sunday afternoon right before it got really busy. The swan boats are $45 for an hour. I couldn’t remember if you could rent for longer, but we only did an hour which was more than enough, you get tired after awhile. They hold your ID until you’re done with the rental. The staff were friendly and professional. My husband and I enjoyed our experience. Thank you Ventura Boat Rentals, you will be seeing us very often :)

Comment: Besides letting people cut in front of others waiting 2 plus hours, I overheard the owner speaking negatively about other customers when she thought I was out of earshot. At that point I decided not to use her business because I was taken aback at the things said.She tried talking over me to go over more prices of rentals as I was trying to get my ID back and calmly leave. She was very uptight and angry that I was asking for my stuff back and leaving. After reading the yelp reviews, I’m glad I dodged a bullet.I recommend the many other rentals available just north in Santa Barbara. Better business and better scenery! Give business to a company that doesn’t speak about customers in a negative way when they think no one can hear.

Comment: I visited the location to rent an electric boat for a trip around the harbor. Visited the website and called before coming out about their Covid 19 sanitizing policy. They said it would take longer time to find available boats as they spent extra time cleaning the boats after use. I was pleased to hear this but upon arriving I noticed that at least 3 of the 4 employees I saw were not wearing face coverings and were interacting and in close contact of less than 6 feet of the many patrons lined up waiting for service on the neatly arranged red 6 foot markings laid out in the dock.Why have us all lined up, spaced 6 feet apart, only one member of group allowed to speak with your representatives, and your employees do nothing to protect us by wearing a mask? When I asked the young female employee why she wasnt wearing a mask, she just rolled her eyes at me.I left the business as I felt it was a mixed message they were sending to me the public. If my health protection is not important to them, I can do my business elsewhere .

Comment: My husband and I did the Kayaking and it was a great experience! We did accidentally drop our keys in the water as we were getting off the kayak and one of the workers tried to help us get them out. No luck due to the high tides so he told us to leave out name and phone number with the lady in the front dest. He said he would try in the morning because the tides were lower. As we waited for the lady to be unoccupied the owner or manager was very rude. Either was he was an older gentlemen and told us that that there was no point in leaving our information that they would never be able to find them. Even if we hired a diver that it would be impossible. We didn’t bother leaving our contact info and left. About five minutes later we received a call from the guy that was trying to help us look for the keys and he had told us he had found them! We were so happy he had found them and happier they proved the rude guy wrong. We are very thankful for the help of the guy that found the keys. Thank you!!

Comment: The older lady that works there is kind of rude. The captain of the boat tour was good. I hate to leave a review because of one person but my whole family is upset because we had set up a boat for 15 ppl and 2 of them are over 70 which we talked to the woman for 15 minutes about getting a boat and which boat. Eventually it came down to her saying it will be just our party on the boat we won’t have to be with no one but the captain so we finally said ok and she said cash would be better. So we paid cash and when we got on the boat about 3 other families got on and we went to talk to her and she said “deal with it or get off” and it took us long enough to get on I didn’t want to make my grandparents get off. So we dealt with it... so for the next time I know don’t trust them And what deals they try to give and the captain is great.

I called the phone number and was told that the worker was stuck in traffic and would get there when she gets there. At 11:30, a gentleman working for another business nearby said she would be there at 11:50. Drove to Oxnard, rented from Channel Islands Kayak Center. They were professional and, as an added bonus, were on time for work.

Comment: This company is poorly run & has no organization skills. I filled out paperwork for 2 kayaks, got to the dock & theyd given them to someone else instead. Went back to the office to be assigned 2 new kayaks & we were asked to return in about 30 minutes. Groups of kayaks were returning after 30 minutes so we went back to the office & the girl couldnt find our paperwork, because she didnt want to be put out to search through the stack, & asked me to fill out more. I told her no, I already did & to find mine. She found the paperwork, sent us down to get two boats & when we reached the dock those were given to others already also. Goodbye! We wont return or recommend your company to anyone

Comment: Horrible experience wasnt provided with life jacket kayak sunk current pulled us beyond the boundary line had to be rescued by harbor patrol (which was a free service) but was fined by the owner because we were pulled out buy the rip current beyond the boundary line. Horribly rude owner was cussing and swearing with kids around and she charged $123 because we were rescued had very poor management skills and had to ask other friends to deal with her problems she needs to have a lawsuit opened against her company for fraud by stealing peoples money and not providing flotation devices

Comment: Slow and rude service via 82 year old man,kayak back strap came loose with mediocre equipment, was off kilter the entire ride from the back strap and large puddle of water on seat when first entering the water vehicle..called manager/manager and there was lack of communication and understanding..would not recommend this location

Comment: Called half hour ahead asked for boat that cost 65 an hour. They said 2 available. Got there they said 1 available... Ok. Asked one of the guys if charge was enough for an hour to 2 hour ride and he said no.Was given the option to take a more expensive boat the cheapest upgrade available starting at 90 an hour....Didnt bother to make up for their inefficiency of being able to serve me as a customer by offering a discounted rate since they didnt have the boat I wanted even tho I was told it was available.People I dealt with were nice but disappointed in how it is run.Took their harbor tour instead which was fun only because of the captain otherwise boring.Wont be returning thats for sure.

Comment: Fantastic time on the water.. I took my grandchildren out on an electric boat... So much fun... We saw sea lions and the kids loved it. I have also rented kayaks and paddle boats before. The staff is always super friendly and helpful. Love this place.

Comment: The boat we were on broke down and it took us forever to get back. The girl in the office was the rudest person I have ever met in my life. When asked for the phone number for the owner she said she would give it to me, I should call and get her fired, because she really didnt care. The guys that worked on the dock were super nice and apologized for how rude she was. After seeing the other reviews this seems to be the norm for her. I will never rent from them again.

Comment: Here is owner picture with a lot of attitude, extra bad service. they take mandatory cash for boat (they have credit card machine always reject it by cashier) they wont report to IRS all these cash, . they are crook boat rental.. they oversell boat seats. but they know there is no seat in the boat that people sitting.most of customers have complain. please read that how dirty they are. they use F word a lot . this is the first time I see such customer service that they lie as a piece of cake. they take money cash. without giving any receipt to customer. what do they think. can run away from IRS.

Comment: Horrible service with a side of snotty attitude. These guys do not know how to run a business. We were going to rent an electric boat but were getting pretty steamed that after 20 minutes of waiting no one said a word to us. No Ill be right with you. No Sorry for the delay No please fill out this paperwork as you wait. Nothing.After twenty minutes of waiting we were finally able to get someones attention and were told that the boat we wanted is available. They proceed to charge $500 on my credit card before telling me that its not ready and well have to wait while the boat charges. I immediately told him to refund my card. He then gives me crap about it and seems actually surprised that I want a refund.At the same time, another guy behind us is there with about 6 people waiting to rent SUPs. Because of the wait, he got on the phone with a local guide and arranged boards, instruction and a guide all while were still waiting in line. Thats right, a random dude called another random dude and was able to arrange everything quicker than Ventura Boat Rentals. Sad.In my opinion, this guy had the right idea. Save your money and time and look anywhere but here.In the span of twenty minutes these guys lost out on about $300 worth of business, potentially more since Im local but will definitely not be coming back.
