A high end restaurant in downtown Ann Arbor that offers a good variety of options for brunch, lunch, or dinner. The food was delicious and the portions are a good enough size to make sure that the diners don’t feel hungry. Not the cheapest area for food in the area, but very reasonably priced! I would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for an upscale venue for fine wines and delicious foods! The service was also very good, which made the experience that much better!
We are so happy with our decision to have our wedding at Vinology!! When I first saw the Bubble room I knew this was where I wanted to get married. The event planner, Alix was great to work with, very responsive and detail oriented. We requested Terry to bar tend and he was outstanding, our glasses were always full. The private cellar area was perfect as a bridal suite. We received so many compliments on the food from the appetizers to the duck and steak to the desserts. It was the perfect space for an intimate wedding.
The food and service are both disappointing, not up to the standard that you would expect from the price, atmosphere anD the decoration. The flatbread pizza tasted like frozen pizza... the baked Brie was very oily with dry bread. The Spanish Octopus tasted plain and the flavor of the Gnocchi dish was confusing and complicated. I think they are trying to make it fancy but unfortunately it was clumsily executed. The worst was the dessert CampFire. I think a good dessert should has a variety of favor profiles that work beautifully together under the chefs magic touch. But the only flavor was sweet, sickly sweet in this dessert. In my opinion, if sweet is the only taste in a dessert, it should count as a failure, or at least mediocre cooking...
Good food & good ambience. I ordered cutlery board which had had meat, cheese, fruits, bread and jam. Service was very nice. So many good wine options, along with cocktail and beer options as well. Making reservation online was easy. I liked my spicy wine very much. I would like to visit this place again.
The brunch was excellent - I wish the bottomless mimosas were a little less expensive as $20 is quite a lot so I just opted for a single mimosa. I would suggest additional breakfast cocktails, such as Irish coffee or spiked hot cocoa. The staff were fast and friendly and the restaurant (and bathrooms) were clean and comfortable. We definitely enjoyed our meal and would return for brunch or any special meal at Vinology!
Simply a great experience. Went in for a glass of wine and mentioned to our server that we were celebrating our 32nd wedding anniversary. The surprise and delight was that our server offered us a complimentary dessert to enjoy for later in the evening and as we already had dinner reservations elsewhere. Plus...they surprised us with this little dish...Well done Vinology and thank you for making this evening special.
Environment: cozy, romantic atmosphere with low lighting and exposed brick walls. The booths have light fixtures with oak from wine bottles. Music was an appropriate volume and I could hear my partner without shouting.Customer service: hostess was polite and since our waiter was pulled away initially by another customer proceeded to take our order. The waiter was apologetic and happy to answer all of our questions.Food/drinks: menu had a small amount of vegetarian options (1-3 items per category). I ordered the Brie cheese and the fig jam and honey made it a nice sweet dessert. Drinks, a good amount of red, white and blended wines.
Stopped in to grab a drink at the bar....terrible service. There was one other couple at the bat who had already been served and barely anyone in the restaurant. Took a long time for the bartender to even notice us...ordered 2 drinks which took forever to make...then sat with those drinks empty for a long time...we decided to leave instead of getting another drink. The bartender acted bothered to serve us. The time we spent there not getting service was not acceptable. The drinks were good.
A high class place that allows you to try as much as you want. You can get a half or full of their entrees so you can mix or match with others. Doing a half entree and an appetizer was the perfect amount that left room for dessert. Everything was absolutely delicious. The wine list is long and varied without being too much and us very varied on prices. Naturally they have wine by the glass as well. I would highly recommend for anyone looking for a special and unique experience.
Best part was the sangria!Definitely not a “nice” place.Meal was prepped incorrectly and server never checked back after meal was delivered till 20 minutes later. By that time we’d picked away at what was ok so no need to remake meal. Told server and no offer to remake nor discount off dish. Again, have a sangria that’s it.To the owner who replied, not sure how to reply to you in thread so adding reply here. His name is Tim and we dined yesterday 8.17 at 7:15pm. Thx.
The food is good (recommend the cheese platter ask for a replacement for the blue cheese), drinks are even better but the service is not good. Our waiter was drunk, had to squint to see the menu and he smelled like a NYC bathroom. Also took way too long to get our food and drinks.
Enjoyed dinner here for my birthday a few days ago. The service was impeccable, and we started with a sage Old Fashioned cocktail (well-balanced and tasty). We enjoyed lamb chops and the fried chicken dinner, which is elevated beyond any typical fried chix. Our waitress helped us pick 3 good red wines to round out the perfect flight to accompany the meal. Make sure you get your reservation— Vinology is not to be missed!
The worst service ever. We reserved a table for 7:30pm for our date/dinner night, and seated right away when we arrived at that time. The waitress dropped some water and menu right away too, but we didn’t get any service for the next 30mins. Couldn’t even order a glass of wine..I’d understand if the place were to be busy or if there was any problem limiting their serving capacity, but it wasn’t even busy and nothing was communicated to us. The server was actively avoiding us as she was passing by and serving another table. Eventually we left a little bit passed 8pm and dined in another restaurant..
This restaurant is an absolute gem of Ann Arbor. My wife pointed it out one day while we were walking around downtown and at first I was hesitant but I’m glad she convinced me to go. We sat outside on the patio, it was a little bit colder out but they had those nice propane heater towers that helped take the chill off. She had a mimosa I had a Bloody Mary, they were both great, they also make a really good coffee! For breakfast we split the eggs Benedict which we both loved, I didn’t know an eggs Benedict could be so flavorful. Just last week we decided to go back and try out their dinner. We had the Brie appetizer which I’m not usually big on but my wife insisted and once again she was right, I really enjoyed it. We split the braised short rib of beef and I was blown away, you can taste the passion for and quality of food that is cooked into the meal, and I couldn’t fully do this place justice without giving a shoutout to the staff and the great service they provided for us. When we walked in, I looked around and thought oh this place is a bit fancy to be dressed in just street clothes and I thought the service we would receive might be reflective of that but I’m glad to say how wrong I was. We were warmly welcomed and given top notch service! Our server was great and the bartender was great the whiskey cocktail with lemon and honey that he recommended went perfectly with the meal. If you are in Ann Arbor you should definitely give this place a try and if you aren’t in Ann Arbor it’s definitely worth the trip!
We recently held our wedding reception at Vinology on July 10, 2021. We did the buyout and had around 125 guests. I cannot begin to say how glad we did! Working with Vinology staff, particularly Shelley the event coordinator, was so easy and seamless. Vinology as a space is beautiful and the food/drinks/staff were absolutely incredible. No detail was spared and everything was organized. We had many family and friends tell us that it was the best wedding they had ever been to. We are incredibly happy with our experience and would recommend hosting an event at Vinology to anyone. Thank you, Vinology, for such a memorable evening!
We dined at Vinology for the third time this evening. The host and waitresses are all warm and friendly. The food ...Last week, most items were a bit too spicy for my taste; this week my husband and I had Boulliabase (sp?). The three scallops were very tasty. The potato was undercooked. $41.3 scallops and a potato...$41!?Sorry.I requested the dessert menu and perused it considering the chocolate lava cake. After considerable time (10 -15 minutes?), our waitress returned and presented our bill without our dessert order. We paid and left without dessert. Disappointing.
Steak came cold and they overcooked it to bring it back. Ice Cream trio was missing a flavor. They brought an apple tart saying it was a lava cake. And they had forgotten to heat the lava cakes we had ordered. Not to mention they were out of sparkling water and beer offered on the menu. Seems its time for a good training in the kitchen and in the dinning room. One star for the Duck a Lorange that was really good
Sarah and I had our wedding at Vinology this Labor Day weekend and it was the best decision we made! Staff were amazing, they were attentive to every guest not just us. Shelley, the event coordinator, was helpful and responsive throughout the whole planning process; even with all the changes we needed during the crazy COVID-19 times. She made planning our wedding easy. When some of our guests had to cancel last minute, they adjusted to all changes and even got us a few bottles of wine. We never felt more pampered in our lives. Food and beverages were the absolute best! Braised short rib, herbed chicken, beet ravioli, and all the cheese, meats, fish pâté and calamari were all big hits with the guests and us. We have gotten so many compliments from our guests about how amazing the food, drinks, and service was. Sarah wanted a drink made towards the end of the night before last call and the bartender put everything down and hand delivered her drink. We will definitely be coming back to Vinology! If you’re looking for a venue for any event, pick here!
3 Stars for now since Im willing to give it another chance, but my first experience wasnt the best. They have great staff and an impressive menu, however the food was sub-par. We ordered the calamari as an appetizer and the majority of it was mushy and seemed undercooked. My entree was the buttermilk fried chicken, which came over fried and was very greasy to the point where I didnt even want the leftovers when I got home. Like I said, Im willing to give them another shot, but for now its 3 stars.
Amazing food, great wine selection, and outstanding service. We came for my husbands birthday dinner. Kyle was a wonderful server and made the experience all the more enjoyable with his personality and help selecting menu items as well as thorough, consistent service. Ian, who was bartending, made us two shots which we asked him to surprise us with. They were incredible and nothing like we have ever had before. We will most certainly return regularly and will be sure to request Kyle again.
Got the Belgian fries and buttermilk chicken. Fries were good and crispy. The buttermilk chicken was very juicy, although I felt that the spice mixture was a bit off with one spice (maybe garlic or paprika) overpowering the other spices. However, my wife disagreed and thought the spices were spot on. The dish came with green beans and mashed potatoes, which were both excellent. Service was fast and excellent as well. Would recommend for a date night and plan to go back.
Amazing takeout experience today! Check out the family dinners to go. Solid deal. Hot, fresh, and really delicious fried chicken. That gravy! Cant wait to try other things. Chicken and waffles... wow it was amazing! The syrup is spot on too. For the price, level of deliciousness, and setting, Im a big fan. The service was probably the best part.
Thoughtful , creative, and delicious food prepared by Chef Alex Young. The whole meal was excellent. From the starter drinks, a surprise mix prepared by the bartender, to the Saffron Seared Alaskan Halibut (a must), and the Morrocan Braised Lamb Shank - a warm, slow deepening sensation of flavor that caused me to absolutely stop and savor. Very complex. Service was lovely, just the right amount of interaction and attention, while the rest of the staff friendly and welcoming. Nice, laid back, ambiance and we felt safe in the spacing of the seating. Bravo, a memorable birthday dinner for this Ann Arbor first time diner at Vinology!
Great food and service. Shared few dishes that were wonderful. Outdoor setting with heaters and tents worked perfect on a cold evening.Update: the fact that you cared enough to ask what you need to do for 5 stars (instead of a very close 4 stars) had me update the rating from 4 to 5 stars. You guys were great and deserve indefinite #s of Stars 🤩 stay safe and thank you !Do you recommend the Fried chicken?Answer: Its like having a private Oscar party at your house . It was amazing! 😊
Kind of disappointing tbh. Had a reservation for an outdoor chalet to celebrate a friends bday .. there was absolutely no heating inside the chalet, no insulation, and you could literally feel the wind. Not to mention the table was waaaay too small for our party of 6. We were seated inside instead which we were really grateful for and we had a wonderful server— she was very nice, helpful when it came to recommendations, and patient with all of us.However, the food was less than sub-par. I honestly don’t know how this place has such good ratings. The salmon was terribly DRY and clearly farm-raised and flash frozen. Their noodles were OVERWHELMINGLY seasoned with Cumin. DO NOT get the Caesar salad — it came DRENCHED in oil and looked completely inedible. The chocolate ganache cake was delicious but I definitely do not recommend their ice cream / “gelato” if you can even call it that. We also noticed (of course after we’d left) that we’d been overcharged for calamari (an extra $13). Also DON’T get an espresso martini unless you want to pay $12 for a glass of Bailey’s with foam and some espresso beans!Overall, not worth it at all — especially considering we drove from Toledo just to eat here. And definitely wouldn’t come back :/
Was really excited to come here but felt that the food didn’t quite live up to expectations and/or the standards we were expecting. Had the miso seared salmon and felt that the Shanghai noodles accompanying the dish detracted heavily from the taste. Also got a gnocchi plate which was excellent, however. All in all though, with the main entree being what it was, I felt that dinner left much to be desired.
Very dry fried chicken, overcooked poached eggs, and then later, undercooked poached eggs, which is dangerous. To add onto that, greasy fried potatoes and a $60 bill. That is my take away from the brunch I had with my family. The only tasty thing was the water they brought in a bottle.
Wanted to like it so desperately! Food was very sub prime for the cost. Appetizers (bake brie with honey, baguettes and calamari), Caesar salad were all very good; went a little downhill from there. Never once were we asked how we enjoyed anything- from cocktails, to appetizer, wine, dinner, or dessert. I wouldnt have minded if the food was amazing!! Unfortunately, it wasnt. :(
We went here on sweetest day. This place has gone downhill. I ordered the salmon either eggplant which was not plated well. The eggplant was not appealing at all. The salmon had a fishy smell which I hate. Use vinegar to rid this smell. The drinks were not good either. My hubby liked the lamb chops.
I discovered an extra charge on my bill and called and spoke to manager about it. He looked up the bill on computer while still on the phone and promptly offered a refund of the charge in the form of a gift card, which was satisfying to me.. I think the quality of their service is pretty outstanding.
My husband and I have never been disappointed with any visit here. The food is fantastic and the service is great. In 2015, we had our wedding reception in the Bubble Room, which was such a beautiful space. Our guests raved about how pretty it was and the food, of course. During the entire planning process, they were extremely helpful and it exceeded my expectations. I would recommend Vinology not only for dining but, also, for any personal events as well.
The food is always delicious. The staff is friendly and very accommodating. My friends and I always prefer to sit at the bar for dinner and drinks. The service has always been outstanding and every mixologist has been very knowledgeable about the food the wine and the spirits. While Ann Arbor has many very good choices for an array of dining options, my friends and I keep Vinology at the top of our list for exciting new experiences.
This place was hopping on a Friday night. We were lucky to get a reservation the day before. Seating is rather tight and uncomfortable for larger groups. We requested comfortable seating when we made the reservation too in addition to providing some notes about our party. The food was tasty and the service was overall good. We also enjoyed the cocktails, especially the Joker. We ordered the duck, tuna and brie appetizers. For our entrees, we ordered the filet mignon, scallops and a few fish dishes. Everything hit the spot except dessert. Dessert was rather disappointing. Very dry chocolate cake and tres-leches.
We had such an AMAZING experience at Vinology. Our server, Phil was incredibly knowledgeable and his input was truly appreciated. We had a nice chat with Vinny, whose family owns the restaurant. His passion for this place is very apparent! Everything we had was delicious! I highly recommend Vinology if youre looking for a great dinner!
This place is exceptional. I have attended a wedding and a charity wine tasting here, the space is stunning and the wine and food are very good. Had brunch here on a Saturday, a bit pricey, but everything was super high quality with touches like whipped butter and local berry compote for your toast. Mimosas were above average.
Horrible service. Had a reservation at 8:00, indicated outdoor preferred if possible. Show up at 7:55. Frazzled host says will be 45 minutes until outside and he will see if there is anything available inside. Wait - I thought I had a reservation??? Didn’t seem to matter. Nevertheless, we find a seat at the bar, and were able to get a glass of wine. Bartender was the only good thing about this place. At 8:30 get a call we can be seated and outside - okay great! Nope - should never have left the bar seats. Takes us outside to a table. As soon as we sit down I’m getting dirty looks from the table next to us who tracks down the host and says that they were waiting to be moved to our table. Hosts now says we have to move to a different table. He tells us to wait as he clears a smaller table. Nothing happens....15 minutes later we are still sitting there, no waiter, no host. Completely ignored. Fortunately we finally came to our senses and made our way down to Real Seafood Co where we had and awesome meal, wine and great service. Will not be going back to Vinology.
One of our favorite places to dine in Ann Arbor. The service here is always a perfect balance between professional, yet friendly and helpful. My husband has many food sensitivities and sometimes its hard to navigate the menu and appreciate all the ingredients in sides and sauces. The servers are very helpful and willing to double check with the kitchen and offer different ways to prepare or different side options. We always feel good about our selections being safe (which is not easy). We also really love the various wine flights they offer. Its a great way to sample something new and explore what your taste buds prefer.
We sampled many items on the menu and everything was delish. The new Chef is James Beard award winner and it was apparent that anything we ordered was going to be delicious. We brought our own wine because we were celebrating a special occasion but the wine selection was very respectable. The kafta harissa flatbread was on point. Kafta was seasoned perfectly and juicy. The charcuterie board was a perfect blend of fruits, nuts, prosciutto and cheeses. For our main course we had the fillet that was accompanied by potatoes and shishito peppers. For dessert we had a fresh and light key lime panna cotta. I cannot stress enough how great our service was. Overall a great experience and we will certainly be back!
Where do I begin? Vinology trumps all other weekend brunch spots in Ann Arbor. Between the $15 almost bottomless mimosas and bloody Mary’s (limit of 6) and the amazing menu, you can’t go wrong. The staff is so friendly and even on game days they are so accommodating. I have had the mushroom omelet twice, the Dutch baby, and the pecan waffles. All so amazing. Mary is AMAZING!!!! She is so sweet and attentive. Thank you for amazing service.
My parents were visiting us from out of town and we decided here. Im very happy I chose to take my parents to this restaurant. The service was wonderful, the food was very good, and did I mention how incredible the service was? Truly, our server was one of the best! Wish I could remember his name.
This place is the one! Enjoyed my food. I had the Spanish octopus and a glass of Rhodes red wine. Ian, the bartender there, was kind, informative, and attentive to all sitting at the bar.The atmosphere is great and comfortable. The decor is charming and contemporary.I will be coming back! :)
Excellent restaurant for fine dining. The service was friendly and good. The bartenders made great wine recommendations. Food was outstanding. No wonder its packed on a Sat Night. Better make a reservation. I picked a spot at the. At so was no problem getting in.Had the Michigan beets and also the octopus paired with a young Bordeaux. It was all very good!
My wife and I got married here in August. The staff is , the space is incredible and the food was delicious. Alex, the even manager went above and beyond for us.My wife and I have also since been back for dinner and had an equally wonderful experience.Highly recommend Vinology for small to medium size events and dinner! I think they can also accommodate bigger events.
My Son and his beautiful Wife had their reception there in June. They had the bubble room for the cocktail hour and meal. We then switched to the adjacent room for cake and desserts. By the time people were done, the bubble room was ready for dancing. It was lovely and they had three bartenders so service was great. The happy couple live in Seattle but wanted to have the wedding here so his Grandfather would attend. If you are having a smaller reception, I would HIGHLY recommend this place.
Very disappointing brunch food. The four of us shared four different dishes. Each one was quite bland and dry. The salmon in the salmon omelet tasted more like canned tuna. The omelet was just a flat egg wrapped around the contents. The wait staff were friendly but seemed too overworked to be sufficiently attentive. Nice atmosphere.
Last week was my first visit outside of Restaurant Week. Although Restaurant Week is a great way to try new places, I dont think it accurately portrays a restaurant so I was very excited to go for a first time experience. The result was excellent food, excellent staff, excellent ambiance. Vinology is perfect for a great meal, whether it is date night, girls night out, family dinner, whatever it may be. Food was excellent, I had steak which was prepared to order and perfectly cooked. Everyone elses food was good too. Their wine selection is impressive, what I liked the most though was the wine flights. Flights are a great way to taste a few different wines, so I love that they offer that. Our server was great, friendly and informative. At the end my husband ordered an amaro (bitter/herbal digestive) and the bartender came to our table to ask what flavor profile he preferred and chose one based off of that - very impressive! Vinology is pricey but by no means overpriced, I think everything was reasonable for what was provided. Well be back soon :)
Vinology has great vibes and a good atmosphere. The Mac and cheese is amazing with a unique taste that separates it as a restaurant. This applies to other entrees on the menu as well. However, the restaurant week menu ‘Beef Birria’ is priced at $24 but is the size and quality of a $5 piece of leftover meat. We went as a group of 4 and 3 of us ordered the Beef Birria. We really liked Vinology but I think it’s in with how much food you get with some entrees. I can understand if the taste is amazing, but I’m shocked about how Vinology can serve this small size of an entree at such a low quality. I believe this is a disservice to the customers.EDIT: The manager was very understanding and helpful towards our issue. Our waitress explained that the sizing is due the restaurant week. After voicing our concerns of inconsistency with food sizing from table to table he listened understandingly to our concerns as well.
Beautiful place with a great selection of wine! We stopped in for their happy hour and were able to get half off glasses of wine, flat breads, and mini burgers. The spinach and artichoke flat bread as well as the gorgonzola and fig were delicious! Someone in our party also got the cap of ribeye and said it was phenomenal. Service is was fast and friendly as well.
Vinology is the perfect location for a small wedding. Our wedding was on 9/21/18 and Alix was amazing to work with. She took care of everything on the day of and made sure that everything went on without a hitch. We were amazed at how smooth the wedding went- including the food and drinks. The staff was outstanding. The food was delicious and the bartenders were super attentive! We couldn’t have chosen a better venue. Thank you to Alix and her team!!
Its not a wine and cheese bar. They are a full bar with great beers, including 5 on.tap. They do have excellent wine selections and a wine club you can join to save by drinking even more wine. They have 50% off wine glasses for happy hour and nearly bottomless mimosas for brunch. The food menu is upscale. I enjoy the spicy cauliflower as an app and several of their entrees.
Vinology was the perfect location for our intimate wedding ceremony and reception for 35 guests! We reserved the Bubble Room and Vine Room, but since the Cellar Room was not booked on the night of our wedding, we ended up with the entire lower level, which was amazing! Alix was so great to work with, and answered all of my questions over email or the phone as I planned the event from across the country. Our guests raved about everything - the beautiful venue, the fantastic food, the amazing bartender who remembered their drink preferences - the list goes on and on. Alix worked with all of our vendors on the day of, and the staff at Vinology did all of the set-up, so all I had to do was show up and enjoy the day! It was stress-free, beautiful, and exactly how we had imagined.
Vinology is always an expensive treat, but so worth it! The food is exquisite and the choices of wine, exceptional. Great for a leisurely celebration or to shake up a boring routine. It can be very romantic, but is also fine for a fun dinner for colleagues or adult family members. I wouldnt recommend it for young kids.
Visited as prospective venue for my wedding. Didnt quite fit our preferences, but we stayed for lunch and the food was so great we almost reconsidered. Definitely recommend the chicken and waffles! And bottomless mimosas are always a plus. Our host/contact was very courteous and informative as well.
Best wine bar in all of Ann Arbor. Not exactly the most knowledgeable wine staff but they are enthusiastic. Charcuterie board is a bit too eclectic in its attempt to be classy which leaves it weird and unappetizing instead. I feel the entire menu has gone this way as week... Too far afield from classy and all the way to weird in the hopes of being unique.
My fiancé and I stopped in to see Vinology as a potential wedding venue and met with the manager. He was extremely sincere, kind, and really seemed to care about our wedding more than the money. This is the first venue we’ve checked out that made us feel like actual people trying to plan the best day of our lives. We also stayed and tried the food and some wine and it was all great! We will definitely be back.
Really great food and service. Used their down stairs room for a team event for about 20 people and it was perfect. There is a bar downstairs so no one really had to leave the room. Did I mention that the service was amazing. The waiters were funny and perfect for what we needed. Would recommend for group events.
I was here at a large party for recruiting and enjoyed all the food as well as the several wines I sampled. The staff was very professional and the event felt upscale with the right atmosphere to be causal with those at the table. Having the basement just for the event created the right sense of privacy. Overall, I would recommend Vinology for events; I may come back to try the menu but it depends on price and timing.
Update 12/20/13** We had our wedding there on 12/14/13 and we couldnt have been happier with the food and staff. Everyone who worked our event was professional and made our wedding and reception enjoyable. Very accommodating to last minute details! I know there were other staff that werent directly involved with our party that still helped out as they were walking by. The food was amazing and they were able to provide so many choices. Even for our Vegan friends! I cannot talk this place up enough.Outstanding! Will was our server and he was very attentive and knowledgeable about the wines, drinks, and menu. We met the mamagers/owners. Apparently its a family business. The food was above expectations. The mini burgers, brick chicken, and halibut were all prepared perfectly and were delicious. The half portions were the perfect size. I you have to have the long island tea and mojito. We were visiting to look at having our wedding there and feel that it is the perfect place. They took great care of us for a simple dinner and we feel confident about our upcoming reception getting the same care and attention.
My fiance and I are vegan and we decided to try the restaurant out for my birthday weekend. We told our waitress we were vegan so she could advise us. I think her name was Jenny and she did a great job and was very nice. We try all the dishes that we saw that were vegan or could be made into. I think they were the mushroom tacos, vegan dumplings, and vegan shepard pie. I love all the dishes. My fiance isnt a fan of the impossible meat (he doesnt like imitation meat that taste too close to real meat), so he wasnt too fond of the dumplings and shepard pie. Thats just his taste reference though. Hopefully they can add more vegan dishes, like pasta, that dont rely too much on imitation meat, because I would love to come back here more often. Also, since it was my birthday weekend, we received a free dessert. I forgot what it was called, but I think the base taste was coconut. It reminded me of a Thai dessert. It was great. We did have a slight hiccup while waiting for our main entree, but the manager came out and rectify the issue before we even thought to say anything. Overall, we had a nice experience and all the staff was great (even the ones on the phone for my reservation verification and when I had to call back to change the time slightly).
I was here for a graduation party, so the menu is probably different than usual. The portions for the small plates were extremely generous, and in comparison the entrees felt small. The presentation was incredible for everything except the beets which were very plain. If I come back I would get only small plates, each one is nearly enough for a full dinner for one.
The dinner was a prix fixe but it was hard to choose. Ultimately I went with the oysters rockefeller, a burrata and beet salad, and the most delicious filet. My brother opted for the oxtail soup and the scallops and I sampled each and they were excellent. A chocolate, passionate fruit tart and creme brulee rounded things out for dessert. Yum!
Have been here a couple of times now . First time was on a whim when walking down main st with a friend. Great find. Loved it! Pricey for sure, but worth every penny. Definitely makes the top 3 in my favorite restaurants in Ann Arbor list. Service was excellent. Cant do the quality of the food justice in a review, but its delectable. I hear theyre family owned. Guys, if youre looking for a nice place to take your date, this is it!
I had my wedding of almost 75 people here last night. Cindy was AMAZING! She made sure everything went so smooth it was the perfect night. Everyone was raving about the food and service not to mention how beautiful it is there. The staff was absolutely wonderful and went out of their way to make sure everyone was accommodated. I highly recommend Vinology for any wedding or gathering of 75 or less.
Vinology is breathtaking. My boyfriend took me here for my birthday and I could not be any happier with our experience. We arrived around dinner time and did not have reservations. We asked for a private room downstairs. We were able to get the most perfect table with two seats in the Wine Cellar room, placed at the end and centered. (Waited 2 minutes tops to be seated.) We were greeted almost immediately by our friendly yet professional waitress. She knew exactly when to ask us how we were doing, even poured our filtered water for us when we got low. For our wine choice, we chose, a BIG(bold style wine with heavy weight and richness) red wine, Zinfandel, Girard. As per our waitress recommendation. I am not usually a red wine fan but this was invigorating, fruity. Our entree was two full portions of Vegan Jackfruit Tamales, presentation was impeccable, many flavors that melded quite nicely. For dessert we indulged in a Vegan Mango Sorbet cheesecake : spicy, fruity, airy, hint of chocolatey goodness. Cost is on the higher end; it is a classy place that is well worth every penny. As we went upstairs to exit, we realized it was very noisy and we did not hear all of that chatter while in the Cellar room. Four thumbs up from us for Vinology, this place is doubly a 5 star restaurant. We highly recommend everyone to give it a try.
Atmosphere is very fancy. Its definitely a sit down date place. While you wait for dinner you can order wine at the bar. The Riesling was my absolute favorite. Once we were seated the waiter was very attentive and the food was delicious. If you are looking for a fancy sit down drink place, I would definitely recommend Vinology
Ive been several times and this last visit for Sunday brunch was a first, but no exception to the rule. The shortened menu for Sunday brunch was unexpected, but not disappointing at all. The short rib tacos and huevos rancheros tacos were both excellent. The drink selection is always great, but the Almost bottomless mimosas were a nice surprise. I really appreciated our waitress who worked to get a friend to try a new drink making it clear if she didnt like it she could send it back without fault.
The food at Vinology, especially their brunch, is always top notch and decently priced (contrast to, say, Cafe Zola, which has good food but is erroneously labeled as a two “$$” restaurant to Vinology’s “$$$”, especially considering their very expensive drink options); while my friend group used to plan monthly brunches, it was always my secret preference to come here. I’m back in town from having moved out of state a few months ago, and we decided to rekindle the brunch club, coming to Vinology again yesterday, much to my pleasure. What has been an increasing frustration, however, is the constant pattern of poor service that seems to be offered when we come to brunch, at the very least to our group. While we are albeit young-ish adults, and maybe greenness suggests low maintenance, we nonetheless don’t believe we should have to sit wondering if we’ll ever get a second cup of coffee, with our server nowhere to be found; or that our party’s meals should arrive both nearly 45 minutes after ordering them, and still not all at the same time; or that we should generally receive no check-in from our server over the course of this wait about things like how long it will even be, or whether we’d like some drinks while we wait, or so on. The restaurant was not at all busy, though whether they were short-staffed nonetheless, I guess don’t have the personal experience to say one way or another. To be more fair on that last point, about drinks, we did receive a question of whether we’d like some mimosas or Bloody Mary drinks when our first round of coffee finally came out, and we did initially demur. But also to be more precise on that last point, we explicitly agreed with our server’s comment at the time that we may need a couple minutes to wake up with the coffee, and probably would order something later. Totally fine plan. Later came late, what with our server being MIA, and by then we collectively decided to not partake, because what’s the point of trying to take advantage of good drink deals like their “nearly bottomless” mimosas if your chance to get your second one may come as early as when the food arrives? This is something in particular which vexed me yesterday, because it seems to vex us every time we come here, with the silver lining being this time I learned my lesson and didn’t waste my money. All in all, worth it for the food and if you were planning on staying around for a very long time, and I do unreservedly recommend their dinner. I think they can fix their service problems, and maybe this prod can help. But goodness.
My branzino arrived with perfectly crisped skin, a shock of crab meat and a puddle of lemon sauce, leaning on a generous portion of risotto fragrant with saffron. It was as beautiful as it was delicious. And try the Belgian fries, with parmesan, herbs, and an amazing aioli dip. And those are just two choices on a menu rich with intriguing selections. (Im going back soon to try the deep dish Argentinian pizza!) All served with welcoming and professional service. Vinology is back, and up there with the best in town.
We only came here for drinks one evening. This place has a different vibe than a lot of other places in Ann Arbor, which is a nice change. Its more subdued and elegant.I ordered some whisky and my brother ordered Pinot Grigio. Both were very good.We sat at the bar and Ian took care of us. He had a dry sense of humor we really enjoyed.
Given the name of the restaurant, one would think that the wine choices should be accompanied by the appropriate stem ware. We asked the waiter, but only red wine glasses and flutes were available which certainly did not suit our bottle of white wine. Otherwise, the décor, ambiance and food (reflecting a seasonal menu) were very good.
Great wine, great food, great location, and the option of outdoor seating. There are many reasons one is inclined to go to this restaurant. Their dishes are note-worthy not only for their flavors, but also for their presentation. Go with a group, order away, and share it all with a bottle of fine wine.

Wedding/Reception Review:We loved this location! We wanted a small, more intimate gathering for our wedding/reception and looked all over the Tri-County area and kept falling in love w/ Vinology. We loved the Bubble Room for its already created beauty that our added flowers, decor and flower wall only enhanced. Alix the Events Coordinator was 125% awesome! She was everything the positive reviews weve read says she is. She made the planning process a breeze and the set up of our decor and preassigned locations throughout the 3 rooms in the basement and was everything my wife wanted and everything she envisioned! We received a ton of compliments on the food (from the fish, to the pasta, appetizers, late night snacks and my dish, the short ribs were awesome!). All in all, there isnt one thing I could say that we didnt love about this place and would recommend it to anyone who wants a wedding of 45-60ppl.
Me and my beautiful wife got married here in November 19th 2017 and it was the best decision we made, we did the sit down dinner the food was out of this world. also you dont need to worry about decorations and they handle a lot of the work for you. very helpful staff. there are some down sides, you are limited to the amount of people you can have, the lighting for photos isnt the best. but if your looking for a simple wedding this is the place to come.
Tiny piece of beef rib defined as entrees, salt only. Most of the sizes this time is small in the restaurant week. Mac n cheese is bland, less cheesy than before. Little spider and one bug were spotted, thus not rated highly in the environment.I have no expert experience on wine so no comment on that.In general, it is not worth its price at 28 for a 3 course meal. But at least the manager is better
The portions of food are less than one would expect in Europe. Very high end place and staff was also in bit hurry - picked up the plates even before we could finish our meal. The food was alright but I wouldnt go there if I am hungry unless I want to burn a big hole in my pocket.
For an expensive restaurant, I would expect the sliders to be served on King Hawaiian rolls, the octopus to be extremely salty, or the tacos to be bland and dry. This place is extremely overpriced. The food is ok but not great. The environment is very nice and pleasant.Editted star review to one star because owner clearly did not read before replying. There were no food allergies......
I went here for a first date. I got a glass of 217 Riesling, Ryan Patrick (off-dry) Columbia Valley, WA 8 it was so delicious! A definite recommendation. A very stylish place with a great variety of wine and other drinks. My server Matt was so knowledgeable about the menu.
Vinology really surprised us with an extraordinary evening. The space is cozy and beautiful. and the menu superb. We choose a couple of awesome salads (Kale & Quinoa was my fav) and two half portion entrees. Everything was delicious! The menu looks like it would also support a night out with lighter fare; next time well try a glass of wine with one of their flatbreads and a small plate or two. Well return!
Came here for a nice dinner with my husband and 5 year old. Id scoped out the menu before deciding to dine here. Wed dined here before and were please with the food. There were plenty of options for our son tonight- burgers, grilled cheese, flat bread. When we ordered we handed the waiter an allergy card for our son. It states his allergens- peanuts/tree nuts. We ordered cheeseburger sliders- simple, no sesame bun. The chef refused to make the order stating he wasnt sure there if there had been a cross contamination with the buns in the factory . They were plain Kings Hawaiian Sweet Roll buns. The web site web states they (Kings) dont handle peanuts/ tree nuts. The manager explained the chef didnt feel comfortable. I told him wed had it before and it wasnt an issue. The chef still refused. I asked for the grilled cheese on toast and he refused for fear the toast was a problem. I asked for the plain flat bread and they STILL REFUSED. The restaurant refused to serve us any kind of bread which meant over half the options on the kids menu was ineligible.Weve traveled across the globe eating everything from local village food to five star restaurants. I know what my child can/cannot have. The manager apologized and stated he must abide by the chefs decision. I even told them Id be willing to sign a waiver stating I wouldnt hold the restaurant liable- since the ingredient label stated there werent any of his allergens NOR possible contaminants. The manager said he couldnt basically have anything outside of pasta. Seriously? They made me sign a waiver for pasta. While I dont mind signing a waiver Id prefer to get what I wanted. They had no problem serving up a chicken dish with CASHEWS for me on the table but refused a white flour bun for my son.If you have any special dietary or allergy problems avoid this place like the plague. My sons food took over an hour for a bowl of pasta and red sauce. I RARELY ever write reviews (positive nor negative) but felt compelled to share our nightmare of an experience, especially on a school night. What shouldve been a 60-90 minute experience lasted almost 2 1/2 hrs. We eat out 1-2 times a week~ and Im not talking fast food. They will never receive another dime of my money and I will make sure to tell everyone I know about our poor experience. The chef needs a refresher on allergies. Stating that there might be a cross contamination of a million possibilities in a facility where they dont even carry the ingredient is outrageous.
Food was terrible and over priced! I ordered the 1/2 plate of scallops (full plate was $46, redic) which was still $26. It had two scallops and some under cooked greens. Nothing tasted good. My wife ordered a salad which was $10 and it arrived with 3 pieces of lettuce and not much else. The bottle of wine (average) was the only thing that got us past this awful meal. Will never go back.
I went to Vinology with some friends and we had a fantastic time! The service was impeccable and the food and wine, DELICIOUS! I highly recommend this place for a casual drink or a celebration. They are family owned and go above and beyond to make your experience enjoyable! I will definitely be back!!!
This place is beyond over priced and serves unfortunate food. The duck was awful, the rib cap was awful, the desserts were awful, the charcuterie tray was awful and there serving size of all the meals was terribly small. The service was poor. Very slow. The only reason i have given two stars is because the wine was good.
I sat outside, so I can not speak to the atmosphere. But, my appetizer, a Gorgonzola and fig flatbread, featured arugula, and the same store bought dried cherries youd find in the baking section piled onto a burnt crust. Im not knocking the quality of ingredients, its just these specific ingredients didnt balance well. The original cocktail I ordered tasted like watered down whiskey and bitter fruit. It was garnished with blackberries, which were themselves ineditible. Disappointing considering the place was highly recommended. Not worth a second try given the great experiences Ive had at nearby restaurants. The one upside was the service.
The service was very good when I went there. It was after a football game and things were really crowded downtown but I was able to get seated without a reservation in about 30 minutes - maybe less. The wine and drink menu is good and the food is decent. Like most Ann Arbor eateries its a little expensive for what you get.
My Husband and I got married at Vinology on November 28th, 2014.There were a small number of attendees, around 45ppl. We opted to reserve the entire lower level. We really did not expect it to be as wonderful as it was. The venue was absolutely perfect! Beautiful for photos and very romantic! We brought in some candles for the isle but even that was not necessary because the space is beautiful as is.The best part of this wedding planning process was working with Mike, the manager. He was so attentive, had great energy, and knew exactly would would look great in photos. The entire process was made stress-less because Mike had a plan for everything. The food was not your typically wedding food, it was amazing (people are still talking about it). They work within your budget and there were only happy surprises at the end of the night when we paid.I literally did not have to worry about anything, EVERYTHING was taken care off.Thank you so much Mike for making our day that much more memorable and incredible! I definitely recommend this Venue to all you brides shopping around for a beautiful venue- stop looking! Vinology was amazing.
Every time we eat here we discover a new (to us) dish bursting with unexpected flavors. This time it was the gnocchi main dish. Expected the typical lump of carbs and instead was presented with a plate full of veggies and herbs and spices that made it unbelievably wonderful.
I rarely if ever make it in for dinner but their happy hour is possibly the best in town if you are in the mood for wine. Everything by the glass is half off as well as a pizza of the day and the sliders. Monday through Friday open to Six. Its hard to beat. Im always surprised its not packed for such a good deal.
We have been going to Vinology for years with great food, wine and service. Our last visit was a huge disappointment, with a reduced menu and about 1/4 of the wine offerings of recent years. The server was not at all knowledgeable about the menu, nor was he willing to look into what ingredients were in various dishes. He had no idea where the fish was from nor did he care. Our flight of wine was unceremoniously placed on the table without any explanation. The steak was overcooked as were the vegetables. This is not the restaurant it used to be.
I ordered my food to be picked up an hour ahead of time, and still had to wait 20 minutes before it was ready even though the restaurant was empty. I didnt realize until after Id already left that my salad was missing avocados and that my sandwich had no mustard on it, despite the fact Id ordered it with extra mustard. However, the server/bartender was very friendly. So theres that. Otherwise it would have been one star all the way.
We had our wedding at vinology Saturday. Cindy the event planner/manager was absolutely amazing and will literally do anything she can to make the day perfect! We had Jenny, Judson, and Ian handling our party and they were the best team that possibly existed! Judson even carried some of our remaining items TO the hotel for us let alone his pleasant and kind demeanor! Jenny made us a specialty shot that was heaven and Ian provided the most considerate professional service ever while still making a hell of a cocktail! Seriously. Have your wedding here
Vinology strives to be a foodie destination but like most similar restaurants in the Ann Arbor area, doesnt quite deliver. The New American menu is inventive & changes frequently. I had the Kentucky Fried Bunny in the lead up to Easter, which was cute, and also the best dish we tried that night. The wedge salad appeared on the menu after a Top Chef episode aired featuring a challenge make a dish with iceberg lettuce, but Vinologys take failed to excite. The dishes were more imaginative than flavorful; most were strongly over-seasoned. One of 3 scallops was sandy. When we brought it up, management apologized, citing a busy kitchen, and comped it. Service was friendly but not proactive; I had to ask for new flatwear and plates.

2022-07-12This place is awesome for small event gathering. I had organized a retirement party and Shelley put everything I needed for 20+ people. It was very well done, loved everything about this place, food, drinks and just wonderful atmosphere. Thank you Vinology for making an event happen.

2022-01-16Me and my husband love to go out to eat and frequently went to Vinology before COVID. After COVID started, we hadn’t been back until last night. We were skeptical as some of our favorite places just weren’t the same after the pandemic. Luckily Vinology was just as spectacular as we had remembered. We ordered the fries and flautas for our starter, fried chicken and red snapper for the entree, and ended with the chocolate lava cake. Everything was amazing. I quite literally had no complaints for anything. The food was great, the service was great, and the ambiance was great. I will say, this place is more on the pricier side but a great option to add to your date night rotation!

2022-04-03We decided to stop here for a date night this weekend and had a wonderful time! Our server was attentive and very helpful with our questions. We had the chicken meatballs and calamari for starters, then the lamb osso bucco and fiorentine bisteca for entrées, and of course the salted caramel lava cake for dessert. I could not have imagined a more perfect meal - perfectly cooked, perfectly seasoned, and nice filling portions. Most importantly, they were very accommodating with substitutions for our dietary needs. This was a special treat for us, and we hope to be back soon for the next occasion!

2021-10-12Ate outside in a small structure and had very good service along with some delicious food. We had the roasted beet & halloumi salad, braised short rib, filet and the beet, goat cheese ravioli, and berries and cream for dessert. . All the food was flavorful, hot, and delicious.Went again and service and food was great again. This restaurant does not disappoint and we cant wait to go back.

2021-05-08I’m going to give this place only 2 stars for now, until I speak to the manager about my experience today. When I first arrived I was offered a seat at the bar, I said it’s going to be a party of 3 is that okay? The young man said yes, I get to the bar and there is only 2 chairs available, I asked for a table and he said I can seat you outside, when I clearly asked to be inside and there were plenty of tables becoming available because people were done eating and leaving. He sat us outside anyway, my third guest arrived. So we sat, and sat, and sat, and waited and waited and waited while servers kept walking by but also taking notice that we were not being helped. One asked if we had been helped after almost 30 minutes. I told him no. He said hang on. While he went in to check and see what was up one of my guest went in to ask for a inside table because we saw many people going in after us being seated and not brought outside like us. The rude young lady with her rude friend told us no there are no tables available, but clearly seated a party of four that came in after us without any issues. Finally the wonderful wonderful server named Eric, got us seated and served almost right away. He said he reached out to management to let them know what happened but he didn’t know where he/she may be.Over all my wine flight was delicious and my daughter enjoyed her breakfast, the place is clean and beautiful. All the other servers clearly saw the way we were treated by the two people in the front who I will go back and point out!! Those servers and the bartender went out of their way to right the wrongs of those two greeters. And I am appreciative of that.I will be back because the place is fantastic! But the way me and my guest were treated is not okay. The young lady at the front constantly rolled her eyes and act like she was high on drugs and hard of hearing. It was unacceptable service and I’m extremely disappointed that it took us 45 minutes to be properly seated and served while other guest came in after us and was clearly treated the way all guest should be treated.

2022-03-14Terrible service, below average food.I had taken my wife here for her birthday dinner. Less of a dinner, and more of some cocktails and a couple appetizers, to the disappointment of our server. Unfortunately its been a month or two so I cannot remember his name. We declined any entrees, and so he proceeded to get the dessert menu, making it sound like we would receive a complimentary dessert for my wifes birthday. That wasnt the case, which is fine. We looked over the desserts and didnt see anything we wanted. When we told our waiter, he proceeded to slam his hand on the table, crumple our menu, and walk away. He said something, trying to act like it was a joke, but jokes or not, nothing justifies this kind of behavior. All night it seemed like we were an inconvenience since we only ordered a couple things instead of 5 courses, meaning his tip would be small. As far as the food goes, we just got cocktails and a charcuterie, which were both fine, but nothing good to write home about. The food seemed like something that marketed itself as a fine dining experience, but really was just Chilis with some makeup on. Especially with how we were treated dining there.

2021-04-27Amazing staff... great food and the chef is cool as hell... the short ribs chilaquiles is a game changer we were tearing it up before I realized I didnt get a pic. If you want to have some fun add crab to the classic Benedict! Boom!

2022-04-30The Lobster & Risotto Nero is good and small plate, the crispy calamari is good but it was not so crispy. The Manila Clams & Berkshire Porkbelly for people who like spicy food is good, the Cinsault, Guilherm Moulin de Gassac Rose harmonizes with this dish. The Banana creme brulee dessert is delicious, for my taste I prefer the soft banana because it’s look like the bananas was not ripe.
