Local coffee joint with an incredibly wide variety of not only coffee beverages, but teas, shakes, smoothies and juices as well. In addition, they have plenty of baked goods and a small sampling of food choices. Compared to other coffee shops in town the prices here are a little higher, but they have a great rewards program and they donate a portion of sales to a local non profit every month, so that makes up for it. Staff are always quick, efficient and friendly as well. Stop by once or twice a month and never have had any issues.
I always support local whenever possible. This is a perfect example. This is a business born and bred in Kalamazoo, Michigan. The coffe house smells of fresh ground coffee. You can smell and see the treats and food. I love the fact that they put the roasting date on the bags. You know you are getting fresh. It has cases displaying their coffees and teas. The cold case is filled with sweets, fruit cups and savory items. You can even get hardboiled eggs. This is exactly the type of business I will go out of my way to support.
Food and drink was delicious and the place has a very cool vibe. Only meh sort of issue was the staff was kind of friendly but not great. Was a little busy when I arrived and staff did not acknowledge anyone at the counter until they were finished with their task for someone else and it was actually your turn. I have always been very big on even a quick nod and a be right with you. Not a huge deal and will definitely continue to return.
The staff are usually very friendly and helpful. Cozy atmosphere though there can be longer lines during peak hours, and seating is limited. Also parking is less than ideal, so you may need to park in the adjacent mall lot and walk over. Food is very good, and coffee is decent overall (though not my favorite). Overall, its a great place to stop for a quick bite or hot drink.
This is truly a third place for so many Kalamazoo community members. I go here multiple times a week, and have so for years on end. Always for coffee, sometimes for food. Great place to sit in - alone. Equally useful for meetings or dates of all types. Perfect design and layout of the space - comfortable. Highly recommended.
One of my all time favorite places to sip a cup of tea. It might just be the memories associated with this place but I absolutely love it. I live in UT and am Soon moving to AK and I wanted to get little MI gifts for my pals at work from the mitten state. I bought my friend a fall tea that she will love and its also a good little gift from the place I call home. Missing the mitten now.Never take the little thing for granted 😉❤️🍻
Been to this location three times and all three times the staff are rude and appear as if they dont want you there. I love the coffee, sandwiches, deserts and wouldnt mind the overpriced menu if the staff were a little friendlier and less pompous. Have never experienced this with other locations. Wont be returning for sure.
Food is good, but very pricey. I wouldnt choose it as a place to hang out for long, Id choose somewhere less expensive. Spent $7 on a drink with tip and thats just excessive for a small, local place. Their food is small but amazingly delicious, and you sure pay for it. Their drinks are amazing and they have many dairy alternatives! I gave three stars because of the cost of items. However, I changed my mind and gave 4 when I remembered their rewards program and the free cookie you get when you sign up! Thats a nice perk. Beautiful space, lots of seating. Minimal parking in their lot, but overall its a positive experience, especially if youre in the kind of income bracket that can frequent the place.
We were on a day trip to Kalamazoo and wanted to stop by for a coffee in a highly rated place, regarded by some as one of 7 best places in the world to have a coffee. And what an experience we had. Placing an order was fairly fast although the person taking the order knew little about brew options available. Then the wait started. Frustrated patrons waited for 20+ minutes for a single barista to produce one drink at a time. Anyone who planned to enjoy having coffees with family or friends had to have half of the drinks cold waiting for others to be made. Coffee was ok, certainly not up to hype reviews. While this maybe an individual experience, i would not go back.
The enticing fragrance of roasted coffee, the succulent flavor of handmade food, and the glow of genuine, smiling faces. These are the things Ive come to expect when visiting the Water Street Coffee on Oakland Dr. They are a phenomenal place to grab a cup o joe with a large selection of coffees, daily specials, and a relaxing atmosphere. In addition to putting love into each cup, they prepare each drink quickly and accurately for you on-the-go coffee heads! If youre in the market for a cup, tumbler, or some tea accessories, they have a broad and affordable selection of merchandise for sale.If I had one complaint, I would remark on the parking lot being crowded but there is a large adjacent parking area within a very short walk.I would give Water Street Coffee Joint on Oakland a 10/10 and highly recommend anyone who enjoys coffee, tea, or handmade, delicious snacks to visit and enjoy their fantastic atmosphere.
One of my two favorite coffees in Kalamazoo and one of my favorite places to meet up with a friend over a cup. Newly renovated, the atmosphere is welcoming, service is usually friendly. Good, wholesome food options too but not what Im usually there for so cant speak much to that. Parking can be a challenge - I usually grab a spot a bit north of their building in the parking lot off Oakland.
I absolutely love Waterstreet. Great for all age groups, whether you’re a parents bringing kids on a weekend, a student studying or meeting friends, or an adult stopping by on the way to work. The staff is always friendly and the environment is inviting and unique. Best iced latte in town! :)
I stopped by yesterday, and immediately noticed the differences between Oakland and Water Street. Both locations have the cuteness factor down pat, but Oakland has easier access to restrooms (from multiple angles) and the larger parking lot ups the UX factor - which is paramount to my routine. I very much enjoyed the cold brew and breakfast burrito. I will be returning for more stimulants - or until the 131 business opens up again.
This is the best coffee place in Kalamazoo. I dont care what other people say, fourth Coast, Etc. The staff are incredibly helpful and friendly, describe everything if you ask, and answer any stupid questions you may have. Many products to choose from to eat and drink this place gets an A plus in my book. The Veranda out front is a wonderful place to watch people in traffic as well as you enjoy a sip of their wonderful Java.
Every time I go in the staff is friendly, the coffee and food are delicious. I didnt get food this time, only coffee. I purchased Midnight Oil beans for my pour over and just made it tonight. So fabulous. Thanks ladies for the info for picking out the right one for me.
I LOVE this Water Street location. Although the downtown location is slightly closer, I enjoy coming here because of the slightly bigger space and the staff. Ophie is the best (current manager) and always super helpful and welcoming. Only drawback is that it gets really busy and can be hard to find a seat. But, who can blame them for being so popular. Would recommend checking them out.
Water Street sells exceptional coffee and specialty coffee drinks as well as gourmet snacks, sandwiches, salads, and desserts. The interior is comfortable, cozy, and creative; locals go here to catch up, talk business, do homework - whatever. This place isnt cheap but the quality, taste, and atmosphere add up and make it worth the price.
Ive only had fabulous experiences with the drinks, food, staff, and atmosphere here. Service is always quick and super friendly. This is definitely one of my top choices for a coffeeshop in Kalamazoo.I will also add that the music selection is on point (for an apparent hipster like myself): Bon Iver, Sufjan Stevens, Beirut, Radiohead, and some other good ones in the hour I was recently here.
Its always a pleasant experience but they had little food to offer because the delivery was just being made and I was there at noon. Overall I recommend this place to everyone and meet friends there because its usually very consistent. they have nice outdoor seating and WiFi. the renovation turned out well.
Baristas great. Bakery and chefs put together both creative and delicious meals and deserts. The qaulity of beans is superb. The only drawback is there are no specials or reward programs for a customers loyalty. The prices are higher than their competitors with none of the perks for remaining loyal to the business. The atmospere particularly in the original store in downtown Kalamazoo on the tracks is great for writing ,studying or meeting collegues.
They have delicious staple desserts, but also offer novelty dessers as well and they’re always so delicious. their selection of quick bites is also so great, and the employees are always smiling and patient. i’m from ann arbor, but perform with the kalamazoo symphony orchestra frequently, and i always make sure to hit these guys up when i’m in town for rehearsals.

2021-04-17Super cool coffee house with good ambience and coffee. Great selection of drinks and a fairly wide selection of food as well. At night this location serves cocktails too! I’ve been coming here for coffee on Friday mornings for a couple years now and I always enjoy my time.

2022-06-23In my opinion this is one of the best coffee places around. only two things that are really bad..... 1)the time it takes to get your coffee is absurdly slow. 2) the indoor temp in the summer is extreme. its as if hey dont want you to hang out so they freeze you out. I dont understand. I come here to study and feel like I need my winter coat! please turn up the heat..... please!

2022-03-07Great drinks and Service! Was a cool atmosphere. The Sleeping Bear Mocha was fantastic. Great flavor and not too sweet (though I did ask for 1/2 of the sweeteners)The wifey had an affogato wich was a wonderful balance of bitter espresso to the sweet vanilla ice cream.

2018-12-27Great little coffee shop. Parking can be a little bit tricky. I love that they have XL coffees. I ordered the Dolce de Leche. It was really good. It could have been a little bit more caramely. But I really like caramel.

2019-12-03From the outside, the small building looks like an old and much-used, anonymous-looking strip mall storefront. Inside, however, was bright, clean, welcoming and pleasing to the eye. The morning crowd was good-sized, but my caffeine companion and I were helped immediately. Reasonable prices, very competitive. The coffee, a cup of Ethiopian drip, was fantastic. Piping hot and fresh, perfectly roasted so you can actually TASTE the specific notes in the varietal. Plenty of seating was available despite the crowd of students and people waking up before going to work. The ambiance was excellent; my friend and I were able to easily converse without having to shout or strain to hear each other. I did not order any of the many stellar looking pastries, but they all looked very fresh and quite tempting. Excellent coffeehouse. Starbucks...who? Im now forever a Water Street booster. Excellent in every regard.

2022-02-27I will focus this spotlight on the quality of roast that Waterstreet produces. Consistent and balanced: there is a flavor profile for everyone in their roasty offerings.Light Roast? Look no further than their Ethiopian natural processed beans.Dark and robust? Waterstreet Sumatra will always have a place in my heart.

2022-01-24Great Drinks and Staff - Greedy ownership.Owner and Upper management put tip pooling between locations in place instead of raising wages for low tipping locations. Shameful that such a successful local business would treat their own so awfully.

2021-12-23Water street is… interesting. It’s local and the food is good. But it’s way overpriced - $6 for a 12 oz latte is LA prices, not Kalamazoo prices. In addition, you can tell the baristas are overworked. They’re friendly but tend to seem stressed out. That’s a management issue. Finally, this location is freezing cold. You can’t afford to turn the heat at least to 68 degrees? Come on now. The greed of the owners is unacceptable. Something needs to change.
