Do not miss this place when you are in the downtown Detroit! It is great place to take a walk and enjoy the great view with your friend, your pet, and even yourself. Well... it is pretty cold during the winter season. And some section of the river walk park is closed for a reason. I recommend you get there after spring :)
Great place to relax and unwind. They have several lounge chairs under the trees and fountain of water where kids can play around. There is also a nearby open-space cafe which offers snacks and ice so you can get ice here and not stop over at a gas station. They also have restroom. There is lots of stuff going on and just walk straight ahead if youre coming from the park and youll reach the front of the Renaissance Center and a little walk further leads you to Downtown Detroit. There is free parking by the Riverfront park.
Visited in July/2018. This Riverwalk development was a huge improvement over what was there before. I really enjoyed walking it, and enjoyed looking at the plants, trees, water, and fellow walkers, runners, bicyclists, etc. It was nice that they had a large police and security presence down there. It makes you feel that you are fairly safe. I recommend to check it out next time that you are in the D baby! :)
This is a wonderful place to come and chill, fish, and just hang with the family. Theres sand boxes and swings for the kids and a bar for the adults. Come riddle the carousel its tons of fun. The area is highly patrolled by Detroits finest law enforcement. Walk the little paths or jog its up to you. You can ride/rent bikes here people even use skates and skateboards. And last but not least if you didnt pack a punch you can purchase food at the food court and yes there are rest rooms....enjoy have a great summer.
The Detroit River Walk goes along side the Detroit River. It is so nice and peaceful. I took my walk at about midnight. The lights reflecting on the water from the boats and buildings were absolutley beautiful. I walked from the Port Authorty, all the way past the Aretha L. Franklin Amphitheater (Chene Park)
Beautiful area to walk or relax. There is a water area that kids and adults can cool down in on hot days. There is cute little sand area for building sandcastles and a little boardwalk cafe to grab a cheeseburger or nachos as a snack. Overall, just a nice place to spend an afternoon with family.
The RiverWalk is a pleasant area to relax on a bench while contemplating life. Very clean, quiet and pleasant atmosphere to relax, read or take a walk. I felt safe due to the amount of security and so proud of one of Detroits waterfront gems. Also, appreciate the free parking!
There aren’t even words to express how beautiful the Riverwalk area is. Every other year we are in Detroit for competition (around August) and we always make it a point to stop here before we leave. The kids love it and the weather is perfect during that time. It’s so nice and peaceful to just sit there and look at the beautiful river and our neighbors (Canada)! I absolutely love it here! You can ride your bike, jog, walk, eat lunch, or just enjoy the scenery. They even have some pretty water fountains that kids ran through. It’s very clean and they have public restrooms available.
A must visit! Put on some comfy shoes and clothes, sun screen if its a sunny day, bring a thermos of water, maybe some of your favorite coffee and snacks, find a seat, lounge chair, bench heck sit in the sand if you want but get out there! On weekends the carousel is working so the kids would enjoy that, they also have a designated child playscape area. Adults if youre looking for a Zen area to do yoga youve found your spot(jus get here early its more peaceful) if youre looking for a jogging, biking, rollerblading, skateboarding or jus walking yep youve found it! Ahhh if you jus want to relax, sit and reflect of life yep find it here!(plenty of spots to sit, from benches to lounge chairs even anorandak chairs find a spot lay back and relax!
It takes a lot to dazzle me. I was very impressed. Clean and people were happy to be there. Eclectic group of fabulous humans. There a chairs and benches throughout. Sand lot for the kiddos. Merry go round, water feature yo get tootsies wet. Kids really were having fun.Well be back and recommend to all!
Love the Riverwalk they are still expanding the Riverwalk its great looking across the Detroit River seeing the country of Canada. You can bike or walk the Riverwalk. People also come down and go fishing. Its great seeing families and people in general everyone speaks passing by.
Its one of the more beautiful scenes in Detroit. I go their to just sit and listen to the water. It stretches from Belle Isle to downtown Detroit near GM Headquarters. The views of Canada are nice as well. Its a great area to run or bike ride. The city is continuously developing the river walk. A new trail was added this summer. Sometimes I take pictures. Mommy and Daddy geese were out with the kids.
This walk along the river is super pretty with well manicured landscaping and plenty of places to sit. Its bike-friendly with a bike rental place at one end. There is some construction at the far end, but the rest is very beautiful. A good place to visit as a tourist.
The RiverWalk is one of our very Fav things to do. You can grab a Great burger or slice of yummy cheesy pizza, and watch the barges go by on the river... Or let the kids play in the fountains in front of the GM building or go on this Amazing carousel. This is a true Gem of Detroit. Come out and enjoy it!!
What an incredible surprise. Went with friends, unsure of what to expect and when I arrived, it felt like I was in Chicago along Lake Michigan. The condos around there were so cute. And the walkway was so nice. It was a beautiful day with a great view. I felt very safe there.
The Detroit Riverwalk spans from the Milliken State Park Lighthouse to the convention center (Cobo). Walking along this scenic pedestrian/cyclist pathway along the Detroit river is the best way to get a view of the nicer side of Detroit. Of note, the Cullen Plaza and Hart Plaza are open spaces to see various monuments/statues, and the GM Renaissance Center is also by the Riverwalk. The 2 plazas are popular with tourists trying various poses with the GM Renaissance Center in the background. Free 2-hour parking is available near the Cullen Plaza, but if youre really planning to tackle the entire Detroit Riverwalk, 2 hours is really not enough time. Be careful with parking over 2 hours at the free lot, the Detroit PD patrols the spaces religiously. The Detroit Riverwalk does get busy on the weekends, but if people watching is your thing, there is no safer place to do it than here.
A wonderful place to get out and explore and get some exercise. See many many people walking, running, biking, and on scooters enjoying the area. West Riverwalk is kept up like the rest of the waterfront. Revisit several times a year and always enjoy returning. Highly recommend getting out and seeing the West riverfront. Also check out dequindre cut!
I love going to the river walk after the jass fest or just anytime I can. I really enjoy walking on the weird spiral thing because you will just be walking on it then all of a sudden your higher up then your at the top.Overall the river walk is a really fun place and you should go check it out.
Glad to see the development on the Detroit River as it ever expands to serve the walkers, runners, cyclists, tourists and all who want to see these beautiful spaces and vantage points. Enjoy some Detroit heritage as you gaze at the waterway on the US side over an international gateway to Windsor, Canada. This is a fantastic sight to take in early in the morning until late evening, sunrise sunset all year long. There may be few people her or many. The River Walk experience easily rivals Chicago, Cleveland, New York and many similar places waterfronts that I have seen around the country.
The Riverwalk is beautiful. If you havent been there yet, you have to go! Not everything is open during the week but its still a nice walk. The river is really clean, as is the park, and its wonderful to watch the ships and boats along with everybody else that is walking, running, and cycling.
I really appreciate the Riverwalk. It’s one of the great views that you can get out of the Detroit River and Canada right here in the city. The riverfront is 5 1/2 miles long, it runs from the ambassador bridge west to just east of the Belle Isle Bridge At Gabriel Richard Park.
I love coming to the Riverwalk as many times as possible in the spring and summer. Its such a beautiful and scenic walk with the Detroit River, city skyline, trees and plants, clean walkways. Its very family friendly.. Push your young child in a stroller, ride bikes, walk and more. Youll see lots of people doing the same.
The view is beautiful. But the people... apparently no one was from the area including the police. A whole damn precinct stationed in the park didnt know where the public bathroom was!!! My family and I ended up finding the bathroom an hour later and the park closed soon after- which is weird. Why does a public park close at 10 PM? We got kicked out and I promised myself to never go back.
Nice walk. Clean. Security around all time so you feel safe. The issue is that there is maybe just one restaurant all around the walk which only open very occasionally. No coffee shops at all. The place is really great to have so many food places and cafés so always wondering why dont thay make it really an iconic area and tourist spot by just adding few more shops here and there especially given its outstanding location!
I love the Riverwalk, I only wish that it was longer. I have always found it to be remarkably free of trash and debris. It is safe because there is a continuous traffic flow of friendly users, including cyclists, walkers, etc. I have read that plans are in place to extend it to Belle Isle. I can hardly wait for that to happen. Also, there a few cracks that could use some maintenance for cyclists, but not many.
Stopped by SmokeyG Smoke House, the guys were out back on the grill my order was fresh off the grill (thats what Im talking about)fries were hot 🔥yummm the large outdoor dining area was nice & clean as well as the bathroom again the crowd was diverse enjoyed myself Ill be back....
Going to the riverwalk is one of my favorite places to go. I like riding the scooter it feels like Im not even in Detroit . its so beautiful and belle isle isnt far away. I really enjoy it cause I get out and love being in the fresh air. i recommend going down there and experiencing all the things you can do.
Its wonderful. A great place to walk, jog, ride bikes, scooters, listen to music, socialize, and clear your head. You will see a lot of people out in the water on boats and jet skis. All the way across the water you can see Canada. There are great areas to take photos with your family, friends, or yourself.
Awesome place to visit in summer or winter. They have security. They even have beach chairs that sit in front of the water so you can kick back and relax. They have free parking and restrooms. They have concession stands, you can rent bikes and scooters. They have a nice play area just for small children with swings and slides. They have fountains that you can stick your feet in to cool down on a hot day. Its a nice place to visit with family and friends.
Nice place to visit with family when the weather is good. Beautiful view of the river, you can see Canada on the other side. Theres also a nice view of Ambassador Bridge.Bunch of other activities are available including rides for kids, ferry ride etc. Or you can just walk towards Renaissance center, they have food options, seating and vehicles parked all over. You can take pictures with these if you want. You can also walk towards the other side on the river walk, opposite to renaissance center. Theres a nice lighthouse.Overall a nice, convenient place to visit. Parking is limited and it gets really crowded on weekends.
It was truly beautiful! We walked the river until we were tired of walking and then ventured into town for a bite to eat. The only problem that we had was that every resteraunt and store required a mask. Being from our home state that did not require one we couldnt get into any place around. But you could still get a bite on the river out in the open. Id say to anyone in the area to take a moment to enjoy the Riverwalk..its too pretty to ignore!
Great place to walk, relax, eat and people watch. If you like to exercise you can jog, roller skate/blade an ride your bike. There are places to purchase food, drinks(adult drinks also.lol)an dessert 🍨.If you like to read there are plenty benches to sit on relax and put your troubles on water an let them drift away
Great place to walk. Parking is difficult to find but I was able to find street parking and walk to the River walk..There was a lot of people and everyone is enjoying themselves. Children at the water fountain, and just a lively community. Some people were jet skiing right but the walking area and people were talking to them. It was a fun time

2022-06-17Pretty cool river walk, the water was clear and blueish, the park well maintained for the most part. There were quite a few people jogging, theres a carousel, a cafe, plenty of seating along the walk... It was also pretty cool that you can see Canada right across the river. We visited 1st week of June. When we got there around 4pm it was very warm, within less than an hour the temperature dropped drastically. As soon as we left the area, it was very warm again.Definitely a must when visiting Detroit.

2022-03-04Beautiful place to walk. Doors on the bathroom stalls are kinda iffy..i had one that didnt lock. Gives you a beautiful view of the city of Detroit as well as a beautiful view of Canada across the river. People dont Detroit enough credit for how beautiful the city is because of the all violence that takes place outside the city. Also its very damn easy to almost end up on the bridge to Canada so you have to really be paying attention. There is a carousel on the river walk perfect for your little ones. Parking is not bad at all and is free so thats a plus! Usually security is there if that helps make you feel a bit more safe. Its very beautiful to walk.

2022-06-22This is one of our favorite areas to come when we are in Detroit. It is beautiful by the water. There is a nice area to walk along there as well. A clean playground for the children. A carousel but it was not open. There was also an area you could buy food but it was not open. The restrooms were available with soap. We saw some nice birds in the marshy area thats there. Parking was free in the parking area.
