Very Very dissapointed in their view of non-members. I had signed up for several classes for my toddlers that require parent participation. I would sign up for classes one after another to keep my kids socializing and active. Non-members pay more for each class. I planned on joining as a member when my kids were older and could do their own activity without me so I could use the facility for my own activity. We had a trip to the Grand Caymon and I wanted my toddlers to have another swim class before we went. I called the Rockford Wolverine YMCA and spoke to an employee whoverified 2 spots were available. I had both kids in the same class time. The Y took my kids info and my credit card and confirmed we were booked. THEN WHEN I GOT HOME I had a message from the Y stating they REMOVED one of my kids. HOW CAN THIS BE!!! I called and was told a member wanted that spot and was on line booking when the actual person was booking us. The Y choose to give my spot to the member! I cant take one kid and let the other watch - this was crazy! I called the Grand Rapids YMCA headquarters and was told the samething! No appology, no compensation, no recognition I needed 2 spots, no concern I had personal confirmation, no appreciation for how many other classes I used there. A non-member is treated like being spit upon and kicked inthe face. Knowing this, how could a non-member ever walk into their doors! I found Rockford community classes offer just as much and BETTER classes. The YMCA for swimming has 6 kids and one teacher so 5 kids stay at the wall when 1 swims. For a 30 min class most kids sit at the wall waiting their turn. Rockford Community classes have more instructors so the kids are almost always swimming and they teach competition swim with proper hand, arm, leg positions. Looke to your local community and dont pay the YMCA more as a non-member to be disrespected.

2022-04-27Edited: I gave this location another star because the KidZone staff is excellent. They remember my kids by name and are extremely friendly. The classes through this location are also done well.Very busy at peak times. It would be nice if basketball players and other members were told when the courts switch to a different sport, rather than volleyball post holders being opened and the rims abruptly put up.

2021-12-27If I could give this YMCA 0/5 stars I would. My sister has been a member at this Y since June of this year and has never had a problem until this week. The works here showed discrimination towards her for whatever reason they had. My sister was wear APPROPRIATE ATHLETIC WEAR, that she has been wearing since she started going. Other women wear the same clothing has her. But when she asked those women if they have ever been told to cover up they said no. On Dec 23, two workers told my sister that she needed to cover up. Mind you she was wearing athletic leggings and a crop top. Plenty of other girls there wear the same thing. After being told to cover up, the two workers continued to follow my sister around the facility the rest of the time she was there. Making her feel very insecure and embarrassed.

2022-02-05Drove here because of a photo that showed a room with all sorts of fun games like air hockey and a pool table but was told that its not being utilized due to staff shortages! Why are members still paying full price when all the amenities arent offered?

2021-08-18This is not the place for you if you have young athletes. They are not able to train with free weights until 15, even though they are freshmen at 14. Kids are also training at the middle school level for their sports and need to be able to improve their performance. They wont be able to do so here. The small machines they allow kids to use wont cut it. All the other gyms in the area allow kids to train at 12, which is more in line with real needs of modern day youth athletes. Even in the Kalamazoo YMCAs kids can use the weights after orientation and while being supervised,

2019-06-24Not very friendly and all I wanted to do was play basketball and they turned me away. This family friendly YMCA is neither of the latter. If u want a nice a nice gym go to MVP, it has basketball and awesome employees. (5 miles away) just a dude tryna exercise and do something fun. This was my experience. Might not be the same experience so keep an open mind.

2020-02-28The young referees for 3rd grade Baketball are quitting and walking off. The ymca says its the parents and 3rd graders fault. These refs are extremely sensitive. I wrote a more detailed review but it was deleted quick. Parents are getting weekly emails that we are causing these high school age refs to quit their job. Our child has played many school sports with mature refs and never seen this.said we will be removed if we are not nice to the refs. I understand if their being abused but I never seen anything. 2019-10-14The Kidzone for infants is ridiculous, can never accommodate taking the baby and the hours for kidzone are horrible on the weekends (at this location) I mean we pay all this money for all of the amenities and they don’t have any childcare on Friday evenings and only open till 1pm on Saturdays? Cmon sadly to say even tho we live closer to Wolverine we have been traveling to the Mary Free Bed location. The hours for childcare are amazing and it’s just a better environment.

2018-01-30I’ve been having to call about open gym for the past year because they like to decide what people can do and change their minds. I called today got the ok that court 1 and 3 would be open. Mind you court 3 isnt even a real court. We decide to go and about 8:30 they say we have to get off the court because open volly ball has enough people to make it two courts. So 12 people playing basketball have to get off the court. I have to get upset explaine that i called and everything before she goes well i guess it is supposed to be open gym but court 3 would be open. There is 3-4 five year olds with a rim down and 4 people playing on the rim. I explain again i called and they said there would be a real court open. She says well if its going to be a big deal forget it. I said thank you. Ive been paying for a family membership for years. I am sick of not being able to play basketball when that is the reason i come here.
