U-Haul Moving & Storage at Candlestick

Open late, huge selection of rental vehicles, and they seem to be of good quality. Had to wait quite a while for my trailer rental and there was some confusion about a discount I was supposed to receive. However, overall, service was good, and the trailer I rented there was in great condition, with like-new tires, which is what I was most concerned with.
U-Haul of San Rafael

Im disappointed. I reserved a trailer weeks in advance and just got a call, one day before I am due to pick up the rental, saying that they now do not have ANY trailers at the San Rafael location. I dont understand how this could be possible, since I made a reservation and expect that a corporation can figure out how to send trailers from Santa Rosa to San Rafael if they know theyre running low ahead of time. This is truly unacceptable business practice. 24-hours notice when the client gave you weeks to prepare, and then expecting them to drive almost an hour away on Memorial Day weekend to pick up the trailer with no discount offered? Wildly inadequate. I used to be a huge fan of using Uhauls services but this threw a wrench into my long-distance move.

Know what youre getting into. The service is awful.I was told that the van would have half a tank when I picked it up, and Id be expected to return it in that condition or pay a fee. Standard stuff. It had 3/8ths of a tank. But that doesnt matter, they said theyd check the status of the vehicle as it leaves the lot. I wait several minutes by the exit, nobody shows. I grit my teeth and drive off, because if I dont get it back by 5 Ill have to return it the next day. That doesnt leave me much time, so Im willing to take the $10 hit.I make it, just in time... or not. Its 5:02. Theyve closed, but not locked the gate - theyre still opening it to let people through, including a homeless guy on a bike whos just passing through. But no, I cant come through. They are still leisurely checking in TWO vehicles right in front of me, and I can see that the whole process takes 2 minutes. But no, I cant check it in. They say I have to come back tomorrow. Why? Because its after 5. End of story, as far as they care. The only thing keeping me from getting truly angry is that there must be a reason for this - maybe their computer system doesnt let them do after-hours transactions or whatever.Where am I going to park this massive van, then? Not their problem. What about that huge empty loading dock they have? One guy says I wouldnt and walks off without explanation, the other says sure, that should be fine. Itll be safe.Wake up 3 hours early the next day to deal with this stupid van. I get there, turn the key... All the gas has been siphoned out. Yeah people do that around here. But it wasnt checked in so its still your responsibility.I ask why I wasnt allowed to check in the previous afternoon. You werent? I would have let you. Wait a minute - so theres NO reason they didnt let me in? No.So. Now Im out 3 hours of sleep, $45, and late for work because their staff prefers to spend more time stonewalling than it takes to actually do their job. I honestly think this is as poorly as you can treat your customers without risking liability issues. I am never coming back.

Regarding the advertising that it's $19.95 to rent a van for a day: really no suprise to any adult that that is too good to be true. Still, the way that you will end up paying $50 (plus $12 for gas, even if you only drive 12 miles), even if you bring your own insurance, ends up feeling a little like a scam of the “false advertising” variety.Of course there's a catch: at this location, it's a $14.00 “facilities fee”. ( oh sorry, $13.95), which is built into the small print of the million billboards advertising “$19.95 a day! (Plus taxes and fees)”Of course one expects taxes, in this case a $3.95 rental tax and a $0.16 City of San Francisco Healthcare Surcharge (wow, socialism once again shafting hardworking capitalists with onerous wealth redistribution!).But, there is definitely something skeevy about dangling that $19.95 rental when the hidden fee alone almost doubles the amount...I feel bad for the less jaded actually broke college student for whom the difference could mean a medium cheese pizza...c'mon U-haul, you got us already, you gotta pickpocket our expectations so coldly? As for the gas, watch out...we checked the van out w 3/8 of a gallon...after driving 12 miles around town, it had gone down to 1/4...no problem! Figured 2 gallons would cover that diff...but at the station the needle would not seem to go up to the magic line...finally put in over 3 gallons and gave up. Even if the guage still read just over 1/4, i would not conceed that this vehicle got LESS THAN 3 MILES PER GALLON and stormed back to the lot, gas receipt in hand. Interestingly, as we drove the couple blocks back to home base, the needle SLOWLY rose to announce that we had bought U-Haul a 1/8 gal of gas. So, lesson? Put in your gas early and let it settle in? Question? Do they have their guages set to register very slowly so that everyone ends up subsidizing their fuel costs? Sounds crazy, but so is renting a cargo van for $20 a day (sorry, $19.95)
Island Park Storage

Excellent customer service!Worth the price. No doubt.Security is always helpful, prompt and I feel safe. The guards are a team of capable, honest characters who watch carefully AND do a really good job of knowing how to kindly treat customers.Im guessing that the owner cares... I notice Everyone working consistently express a positive and encouraging attitude. It is the smile that greets and reminds me to relax... I know it sounds cheesy, however it simply restores my optimism. (which definitely makes going to storage less of a chore and more of an opportunity)Some how, theres extra time to enjoy some fresh air with a little elbow room... Take in the beautiful views of the city and remember how fortunate we are. Most of us, were working intensely so that we may enjoy living in a crazy crowded expensive city...Some of us are blessed with a peaceful place - and a little safe space for our treasures of today...Enjoy the seagulls as they chatter dancing above truly a treasure of an island; where teams of experts keep it all secured.Ok, its first impression visually is likely to feel a little rough around the edges. Accept that the whole island feels that way due to all the changes underway, and that other to inspire you...Island Park Storage its worth the second look. It isnt the newest or the fanciest... Does your ego need the fanciest? Or do you remember that because lives are busy, we need more space? It seems mostly we are renting to postpone a chore of priorities. Or maybe you not sure... Be sure if one thing, the guys at Island Park are the best and most experienced in SF.Many thanks! I sincerely appreciate being able to safely and effortlessly arrive and depart as needed... It has been amazing that whenever we needed something, Island Park Storage already has it Right.
U-Haul Neighborhood Dealer

Reserved online a week & 1/2 in advance. Originally wanted a 20' truck for 2 days. Reservation did not reflect this, so I called directly. I spoke with Nef, who tried to be helpful but honestly was not the most knowledgeable staff. He kept getting off the phone and was not able to answer any of my questions on his own. After he “fixed” my order, he said I was good to pick up as scheduled. Fast forward 3 days later, I get another call from a UHaul representative (18 hrs before we're supposed to pick up) who said my guaranteed reservation was not honored by Treasure Island and the closest truck available to me at this point is in LIVERMORE (over an hour away from current and new address).BUYER BEWARE: Do not reserve from this location ever. They don't know what they're doing and will play in your face with these bogus reservations. Moving is stressful enough without an unreliable service wasting your time and money. This is now the second time I've been screwed during a move by UHaul and I will no longer use their services.Speaking to the individual location is pointless, I'm going straight to corporate to try and salvage this mess.

U-Box at U-Haul

I had a horrible experience with Uhaul Uboxes - completely unprofessional, unorganized and set up to overcharge the customer because the local, national and call center offices are not connected. Shipping is separate from Ubox, which is separate from storage and no one manages a entires customers rentals.I had issues with the Ubox delivery. When they were delivered, they could not be shut or locked. I had to have new ones delivered. They said they would pick up that day. Then they told me that wasnt possible. They kept changing pick up time, and all of my belongings sat out on the street in the Mission overnight.I could never reach someone to answer my questions. TIP: only deal with the local offices if you need boxes delivered, access, etc. The call center would say they set things up, and when they did not happen and I spoke with the local office, the local office had no notice of my reservations or conversations.A total disaster!! I would highly NOT recommend.

I just purchased a 2024 Gixxer 750. Hooked it up to a trailer and towed it home. The next day I called my insurance company AAA thinking it would be an easy and quick process to add the motorcycle insurance to my cars policy. Oh how wrong I was! I was told that they don't provide motorcycle insurance that they would have to go through Progressive insurance. Progressive gives me a quote of $6,000. On top of that, they wanted it in a single lump sum for the year. To say I was shocked is an understatement. I called around for an entire day from company to company getting the same type of results. If they didn't want the lump some they wanted between $500-$600/month. I have had my drivers license since I was 16. I been riding since I was 21. I'm now 50 years old. I have never had to pay such outlandish insurance premiums for a bike. My driving record is spotless which it has to be because I am also a class B driver. I was just starting to wonder if I made a mistake buying the new bike. Until in a last desperate attempt I typed into my google browser Motorcycle insurance companies San Francisco. 100's of companies popped up. I randomly chose one number to call. That was to Janet Lin State Farm insurance company of San Francisco. An agent by the name of Anita Scribner answered the phone. After my pleas for help. She was so kind and helpful. And was also shocked at the quotes I was getting. She told me not to worry that she could help me. After about 15 minutes on the phone I was set up with full coverage motorcycle insurance at $92/month. I wanted to cry I was so excited! Anita at Janet Lin State Farm insurance is the most professional and kind agent I have had the pleasure of dealing with. I will be making a change from AAA to Janet Lin State Farm insurance for my other vehicles also. If any other riders are experiencing the same insane quotes. Don't get ripped off by greedy agents and companies. Give Anita at Janet Lin State Farm insurance immediately!
The Garage

I have taken my car there for several years. This place used to be good, but i took my 2011 Ford Escape there last week for its 95K service. I was asked when I needed it back, I said 2pm. The receptionist, Lily Caro, who later was identified on my paperwork as the service adviser, said alright. I assumed that meant, it would be ready on time. Well I was never called and I called them at 4:45 pm and was told it was ready. I was never given any information about what was found needing repairs, except 2 tires that would need replaced soon. I said alright. They used give you a call and let you know what needs servicing when they are working on the car. At pick up all she gave me was a receipt with the payment info on it and not much else. They used to give you a link to all the items inspected, checked, replaced, and would reiterate things that need to be fixed. I was never called about anything needing work. I asked about the link for what they did, and was told, I dont know, let me see. She was able to send the link to my email. When I could finally open the link, it listed several item, including:1. valve cover gasket: Rec to replace engine valve cover2. Front Suspension System:Left LCA bushings cracking/tearingRight LCA bushings cracking/tearingReplace control arm(s)3. Drive Axle Boots: seeping Right and Rear inner4. And a left blinker bulb not working.I was never told of any of these things. The worst sounding like, If the drive axle breaks, then the vehicle will not drive.I am not bringing my car back to them and will seek out a new mechanic. Something seems to have changed, and not for the better. This Lily person doesnt know anything about cars nor have any customer service.
