U-Haul of Santa Barbara
4417 Hollister Ave, Santa Barbara, CA 93110, United States
Worst experience ever!! From the start I should have known this was not going to go well. Long short, rented truck from Ventura, called day before to pick up in SB, ding ding red flag. Now they did compensate for the miles to pick it up so we accommodated the inconvenience. 45 mins into our 300mile trip up north, the truck breaks down! My husband sat on the side of the road for 8 hours first waiting for roadside assistance, then a tow truck to take it to a location to have alllll our items repacked into a new truck. (Which the uninsured unlicensed company they sent damaged all of our wood items and washer/dryer then denied it) Meanwhile myself, sister, 2 dogs, my 2 year old and 5 month old arrive at our new house with no items to sleep on or fridge to put food in. Uhual puts us in a dirty, drug deals in the parking lot Ramada for the night while my husband drives over night 8 hours so that we have our things to move in the next day.Now a sane mind would think there would be some financial compensation for the loss of an entire work day for my husband ($300), the food expenses that accompanied not being in our home (roughly $70 for the 2 days) and a broken down truck we paid $1000 for...think again! I spent a total month getting the run around, this department, that department, the manager of the location completely Ignoring my messages, all for a rep to tell me uhh sorry nothing we can do about the movers damaging all of your wood items, you signed a waiver (like I was going to have my husband load a 26ft truck by himself :/), and ya you returned the truck on time (it was over a weekend) so there isnt grounds for a refund....seriously?!If I thought I could get any reasonable response I would continue, but it doesnt sound like I can do anything to convince them that this was not a $1000 moving experience we paid for. Absolutely shocked people can do business this way. Please take the warnings of these reviews and DO NOT rent a moving truck from here :(

U-Haul Storage of Santa Barbara
4101 State St, Santa Barbara, CA 93110, United States
I have been storing here for almost a year. I often leave messages for Stacy the manager, that take weeks to return.I chose a unit that had elevator access. However, the elevator has been broken for over 3 months now and they say they have tried to repair but they cant get the parts. I was given a discount for 1 month of $20.When I asked again about the elevator situation, I was told that it was not going to be fixed and that I cant get a discount again. The young man also said lucky to have the unit I have. (Really?) He then told me that they were going to remove the elevator from the other building.I am very upset about this since I specifically chose this place because I could put my stuff on an elevator instead of going up and down stairs. I am a middle aged woman. In addition, when I went to get some of stuff out of my unit, 3 weeks ago, all my stuff in the front of the unit was covered in saw dust. They had just repaired the floor outside my unit and mustve have cut the boards right there. Needless to say, this is not what I would want or expect.I am waiting now for 3 weeks for Stacy to return my calls. I have left multiple messages.I am looking into renting from another business in town.Follow-up: at 1:30pm today Stacy finally called me. She was defensive and said she tried calling me several times and left messages. I did not have any voice mails and only 1 missed call from last week. She kept saying shes done all she could do for me and that it wasnt enough. I responded by saying, that it seems like all you want to do for me is tell you cant do anything for me.She didnt apologize for the sawdust in my unit, for the attitude of her staff (Enrique). She is a nice person, I believe, but she does NOT know how to run a business or treat her customers. She did not even TRY to address 1 of my concerns. All she wanted to do was be defensive and make excuses. I will be moving out this week.DO NOT RENT STORAGE FROM THIS PLACE!

The Eagle Inn
232 Natoma Ave, Santa Barbara, CA 93101, United States
A PLEASANT STAY ! My wife and I hit the road at 1pm on Thursday bound for Santa Barbara. We had booked 3 nights here a few months ago to enjoy a long weekend getaway to celebrate my wifes birthday. In fact we stayed here ( overnight ) once before in Sept, 2020 and it was pretty good. We chose a Casita ( much bigger than a room ) then and a Casita this trip. After a long traffic jammed 3 hour drive we finally arrived here about 4pm. We headed straight to the reception desk after parking our wheels on their private parking lot ( random parking / no pre-paid reserved spots ). WOW ! The same desk clerk as our previous visit....the very helpful Ryan was sitting there to greet us. This trip we didnt bother to bring our eBikes so there was no need to ask Ryan to secure them in their store room overnight ( for safety ). The hotel does offer free cruiser bikes for guests. My wife nailed an upstairs Casita this time...Santa Rosa. A simple fresh cooked breakfast in the hotel dining room is included in the room / casita rates....Ryan gave us 3 coupons for 3 mornings in case we needed them. PROBABLY NOT ! We planned to have breakfast early on Friday at one of our fav places....Jeannines Restaurant & Bakery in Montecito. With no pre-paid reserved parking spots it can become a bit of a turkey shoot to nail a spot on their private lot. If you dont get one then its street parking in a very narrow congested street. WE GOT LUCKY ! So we managed to snag one of the only 3 undercover parking spots ( within view of our upstairs casita ) each with destination charging outlets. Our Casita was quite large though not as well organized as the one we had a couple of years ago....very old small flatscreen TV on the wall and a deafening noisy exhaust fan in the bathroom that came on with the only light. The low to the floor toilet was built for very young children....who needs their knees up around their ears while sitting on the loo. A huge spa bath like last time but this one had only half the jets working. A nice vase full of red roses and a greeting card was a thoughtful touch appreciated by my wife. The king size bed was comfortable enough.....I didnt think much of the shower....2 shower heads and only one worked. We had a small separate kitchen room with a quiet working bar fridge, a small microwave, a Keurig coffee machine and a sink. Certain aspects of this Casita need to be upgraded. Because we were worried about losing our treasured parking spot we took Lyfts to a couple of dinner spots....Buena Onda Empanadas nearby and Himalayan Kitchen in State St. TOP DINNER SPOTS ! The air con in our Casita worked well and the gas fireplace was a warming treasure. We had a big day planned on Saturday....renting eBikes for a long bike ride, lunch, dinner etc so we took a punt on breakfast in the hotel dining room. It is fresh prepared and cooked while you wait but dont expect anything more than simple....quiches, small bowl of fruit, orange juice. There is something they call an espresso machine but when I attempted to use it I was told by Skye the desk clerk it was out of order for the moment. Apparently it is very temperamental and Skye informed a few minutes later it was functioning again. NOT REALLY ! It did dispense something that looked like black oil and then when I hit the touch screen for cream.....there was a mini cyclone of powdered milk dumped on top. After whacking a couple of sachets of sugar in and tasting it....I dumped it ! Straight after our very basic brekkie we headed over to Dune Coffee Roasters for sensational morning lattes...BEST COFFEE IN SANTA BARBARA ! We also had 2 delicious lunches at Lilac Patisserie ( gluten free ) in State St. So each evening I enjoyed a couple of ice cold craft beers on our small patio overlooking the parking lot before we headed out to dinner. The excellent Bettina ( wood-fired pizza ) in Montecito is a dining must ! We are not big fans of corporate hotels so even with the small negatives this place is quite satisfactory. GOOD ENOUGH !

Big Brand Tire & Service
523 N Milpas St, Santa Barbara, CA 93103, United States
Big Brand Tire at this location in Santa Barbara has gone above and beyond for me-- specifically, a worker by the name of Delip Singh. On December 4th, on my way to my 4AM shift at Trader Joes, I and several other cars hit a large tire that was on the road. I had my car towed to this Big Brand Tire simply because it was the closest one. I had one tire go flat and its rim was completely damaged. At opening time, I called to explain the situation and a friendly worker named Delip assured that he would get me back on the road in no time. However, the problem we encountered was that nobody local had a rim in stock that matched my Fiat 500, and we were not going to be able to get one shipped until after the holidays. Both of us tried calling as many places across CA as possible (junkyards included), and all led to dead ends. Delip called to tell me that the only luck we might have is if we had a welder bend my rim back into shape. That didnt work out either. I was feeling pretty hopeless. After almost a week with my car in the shop and little to no hope of getting it back soon, DELIP LOCATED A MATCH 3+ HOURS AWAY. With this miraculous chance encounter... DELIP SENT HIS FAMILY TO GO PICK IT UP FOR ME. When he called me to tell me the news and said my car would be ready that same day, he told me as if it were no big deal (?!?!). However, I knew that this act of service was not in his or his familys job description. Shocked, I thanked him profusely and with his permission delivered him a huge tray of holiday cookies at BBT. It truly felt like a hallmark Christmas miracle!Delip and I went through so many challenges while trying to solve this problem. He did NOT have to go to the great lengths that he did in order to solve it, but he did and the impact is lasting. I will continue visiting this located for any services I need in the future!

Cachuma Lake Campground
2225 CA-154, Santa Barbara, CA 93105, United States
3/19/24After a year of recovery, Lake Cachuma has spent a ton of money to recover the docks and boats. I am very impressed with the effort on both the Marina and Cachuma staff. I am sure the lake will get back to a normal operation sometime this year. I fish weekly and will say I am very happy to be apart of the community. They have come a very long way from a very disastrous event that filled the lake in a 24 hour period, with 38,600cfps into the lake with major damage. The river into the lake rose 14ft or more, taking out trees and nearly the Ranger Station at Paradise Rd.Please visit this very beautiful lake and understand my review from the past as Cachumas response from a Negative to a Positive.2023 - The people in charge of the boat rentals did not prepare before or after the major storm. Letting their boats fall apart. Furthermore, keeping half their fleet in the water. There are so many boats in various areas of the lake shore in disarray from storm water. No boats were allowed to be rented this week-weekend.Now the reason for the 1-Star - Only for the boat issue! Cachuma Lake is a scenic place to camp if you can tolerate the miday wind. Fishing is still good, I caught a bass and released it, saw others catch 2.8 lb trout. At least 4 in 5 hours.Whoever is in charge of the boats better get them ALL in the water before the Apr 15th Trout Derby, or youre gonna have a very poor turnout.RVs stay off the grass! I had to help a 5th wheel that sunk up to the corner of the left rear frame 30 degrees tilt.

Cachuma Lake Recreation Area
1 Lakeview Dr, Santa Barbara, CA 93105, United States
If you approach the campground from the south (Santa Barbara), just be aware that most of that stretch is a windy climb up into the hills, so it's perhaps not the best route if your RV or tow vehicle struggles with inclines. The park has several camping areas. We stayed in the first section, which is the first left turn after the check-in kiosk. This section has wide paved roads with concrete back-in sites with full hook-ups. Our pad was cracked and a bit warped in some places, but we had no problem leveling (and the patio area of the concrete with the picnic table was in good shape). Some sites had shade-producing trees; others did not. The sites in this section are fairly close together. There is another large section of back-in sites on the opposite side of the main road with gravel pads: four of those sites have full-hookups, while the rest of them just have water and electric. The rest of the camping areas are labeled as tent sites with no hookups, but I did see a number of RVs parked in some of those sites, which do have the advantage of being more spread out. Each camping section/loop has at least one dumpster and one bathhouse with bathrooms and showers. I did check out the shower stalls before we left: looks like the ones in our bathhouse were coin-operated. Our section also had a recycling dumpster. There are also a number of cabins available, as well as some large yurts with patio decks overlooking the lake. There are a ton of amenities at this campground. There is a large camp store with convenience store items and souvenirs that doubles as a gas station (no diesel, though) and provides propane refills. Just down the road from the store is a parking area with three or four dump stations. There is a pair of fenced-in dog areas next to the laundry facilities and two swimming pools (which were closed during our visit). There are two playground areas, one public cornhole setup, an outdoor theatre that seats at least 100 (probably for showing movies), and a large disc golf course that winds through the campground. There is also a clubhouse and a small nature center next to the full hook-up section of sites, and a restaurant with outdoor seating next to the main boat launch.Except for the occasional road noise from route 145, the campground feels remote. Early mornings are quiet except for the occasional gobbles of the wild turkeys that roam the campground during the day. There is an abundance of moles and pocket squirrels, so much so that there are holes in the ground everywhere and enclosed rodent poison traps located around the park. You may also see an occasional snake. There are a few short hiking trails around the edges of the campground, and access to one long trail (the Sweetwater Trail) that exits the campground and leads to the nearby dam. There are street lights in the full hook-up section, but they are capped to only shine downward, so on a clear moonless night you can look up and see a lot of stars. In terms of cell service, the best speed I got on my Verizon Jetpack with MIMO antenna during our stay was about 50Mbps down and 20Mbps up, so I had no trouble working or streaming video. The best speed I got with my AT&T phone showed 9.5Mbps down and 5.5 up.We would definitely stay here again.

Coast Tire And Service
136 E Haley St, Santa Barbara, CA 93101, United States
Coast Tires and Service is the mechanic I have been looking for for the 7 years I have lived in Santa Barbara. Theyre open on Saturdays which is a huge convenience factor for someone like me who has a jam-packed weekday schedule. They are fairly priced and very honest.I went in for an oil change, but they also checked a bunch of other things for me (brake pads, rotors, etc) and found some serious issues that could have resulted in an accident, possibly risking my life. One of my brake pads was at 5%! They showed me how they measure the brake pads and I physically saw the tool they use and they showed me the measurements right in front of me with that tool. They showed me the difference between one of my rotors which was severely leaking, and the other which just started leaking. They also physically showed me how my power steering belt is extremely cracked.I let them know I was financially limited, and essentially asked What is most important here? They were honest and told me the brake pads and rotors were dangerous and should be fixed ASAP, but I could wait on the power steering belt. So I got the rotors and brake pads done, and will most definitely return here for my power steering fix (which they already provided a quote on). Thanks, Coast Tires and Service!

El Capitan Canyon
11560 Calle Real, Santa Barbara, CA 93117, United States
Overall, I really enjoyed El Capitan Canyon. I went there last July 4th weekend, &stayed in the middle section in a Yert. It was right near the pool restrooms, showers, so conveniently placed. It got hot during the day, & cold at night, so have a staff member open &close the windows for you. Theyre happy to help!! The round, wood beamed room, had a very comfy queen bed, a twin bed, plus a trundle twin bed underneath. The linens are good quality, & the pillows were great!Theres a small fridge, pegs to hang clothes, & a kitchen like module.Theres lots to do & see, or you can read, relax or vege out in front of your very own firepit. They offer free bicycles, walking tours of the farm nearby, & a really nice BBQ, with a great country, blues band, dancing, very family oriented, with babysitting services at night. They also have an evening astronomy expert, who is very knowledgeable, &ntertaining. Bring a flashlight everywhere you go at night! Its dark!! Its very safe, but still, youre in the woods, & there are mt Lions around, its a good idea to have a buddy system for younger kids. Bring bikes, scooters, kites, frisbees, volleyball, soccer balls, outdoor games you enjoy. Theres lots of open space to play no cars are allowed to drive thru unless checking in or out. Again, the staff is very accommodating, & go out of their way to help you with anything you need. If youre prone to frequently needing a restroom, esp at night, stay in a cabin or unit that has one, its dark & cold at night, just convenient.Theres a general store with Lots of fun stuff, but with practical things like clothes, bathing suits, sweatshirts, hats, sandals, etc, but a bit pricey. I bought nice books for my grandkids, plus fun little games, a cool walking stick carved from wood, & a nice coffee cup. They have another shop, but its more artsy, with nice gifts like crystals, wood objects, wind chimes, candles, more. Again, pricey, but unique. The canyon is located across the street, down the road from Refugio State Beach. Its not an easy walk, esp with Lots of Beach gear, etc, take your car pay the parking, its not worth shlepping the kids, grandma, gear, food, mom, etc, its not very safe either(cars)...be a sport and pay the $10 fee, youll be glad you did! The beach is beautiful, windy, very short from shore to sand, more ruggedly situated, but really relaxing once settled in. There a restroom, & cement path thats on an incline down to the beach. You can settle in close by, or venture left or right, away from the crowds. Its a beach frequented by locals, & visitors like yourself, & foreigners. The next day we took the bikes & rode over along the service road to the farm nearby. There were donkeys, goats, lots of hawks flying around looking for roadkill...theres a fence that separates the animals, but theyre friendly, & fun to watch. Bring apples, carrots, let your kids feed them thru the fence, its a lot of fun, & great photo opps! There are several different kinds of structures to stay in, I recommend that mom N dad stay in a Yert, or cabin, the kids stay in a tent. This way you have some privacy, & the kids have an adventure! They have tents that are right next to cabins, & its really very safe. Only for kids that are at least 12-16 years old, who are responsible, & will watch their younger sibs! Its more affordable, & lots of fun.The pool area in the first section gets very busy, the kids were wild & theres no life guard. If you want more peace & quiet, ask if the upper section has less kids booked, worth questioning...we didnt get up their, but would venture to guess more people with kiddies stay near the pool & closer to the restaurant/gen store areas, near the entrance. The larger cabins are in the section further from the Check in desk. I believe theres a pool area, but all amenities, & a map of the canyon are on the web site. Overall, a great place to stay!!! The call it Glamping, glamorous camping...You still need to bring everything you would camping, but its definitely worth the experience!

Dive Santa Barbara
301 W Cabrillo Blvd, Santa Barbara, CA 93101, United States
First a disclaimer: The dive company is awesome. They are separate companies but the same name so easily confused. Our dive boat and crew were great, the boat, crew and food were top notch. The dive shop however was a different story. First, the man helping us shouldnt be in customer relations. He was unfriendly and rude. Maybe just a bad day but he acted like we were a burden when we were trying to give him hundreds of dollars for dive gear and rental equipment for a four-day boat dive trip. While he was helping us, others came in and he blew them off like they were also a burden to him. It started with my brother forgetting his C-card and when we tried to make something work with him he had no interest in helping. I completely understand his concern regarding liability, but his lack of interest in trying to make something work was mind blowing from a customer service standpoint. We couldnt reach NAUI because it was too late at night. We ended up having the instructor on our boat rent the tank, then validated my brothers cert on the boat in the morning and it worked great. The second frustration was upon returning we got our 10# of soft weights mixed up with another divers soft weights. Both were lead bead but the ones we were trying to return were made of a different fabric. Instead of working with us they billed us for the rental of the 10# that were missing, then ALSO made us buy the 10# for an additional cost of $53.I run a customer service company and if I treated my customers this way I would be out of business. However with SEA Landing they seem to be just fine with this level of customer disservice. Next year we will take our business elsewhere for rental.
