Penske Truck Rental
2380 Lafayette St, Santa Clara, CA 95050, United States
I have been a client of Penske for about 2.5 years now with 2 box trucks on a lease. We have had multiple issues working with Penske. Starting with the fact that nothing that was told to us as benefits of working with Penske and having a lease with them was true. We had very few situations that they were able to provide what they promised 95%+ of the time they couldnt back their promises or anything they have in writing. On top of it, we have had extremely high charges to our account month after month for miles we didnt do. They would add about 14,000 miles to the invoices and charge us for it on months when the truck didnt even do 800 miles. These are big charges and they werent the ones to fix it.We had to catch it and chase them for it each time. It took months to get the problem solved. In the meantime we were being charged ridiculous amounts non-stop. No compensation was provided. One of the new trucks they provided to us had a technical issue and we had to drop it off to them, at which point we decided to terminate the lease agreement and they agreed. Instead of terminating this on the agreed upon time they set the termination date weeks later. They charged us for the additional weeks we didnt even have the truck. We also have to pay insurance coverage for that period because they cant provide documents to show the stop of use as of the date that it was dropped off to them. Now that we agreed to just take the hit on everything they caused it was time for them to give us the deposit of $5,000 that we put down for the lease which they originally said will be returned to us upon termination of the lease agreement as long as no balance is due for the lease per truck.Guess what? now we need to fight for our deposit as well.I regret ever using Penske and would suggest to everyone trying to operate their business to find other alternatives. Penske was supposed to give us peace of mind, instead it is costing us way more than we every thought it will and there are absolutely no benefits that comes with it, in fact it is A LOT MORE WORK that you just added to your plate.Good luck.
U-Haul Moving & Storage of Santa Clara
2121 Laurelwood Rd, Santa Clara, CA 95054, United States
Good price but hard to manage.Ordered several uboxes to ship belongings, asked for Campell site but got assigned for this one. When arriving with a hired moving company, one of the uboxes onsite had the wrong container ID, so I had to go to front desk to correct this. After waiting for half an hour, the coordinater said the right container can be moved out for my loading, but it could be at random places on the field. The moving company cannot move furnitures to different ubox containers at hundred yards apart. This ended up in a debate. Then I had to search for and speak to the manager. The manager seems helpful and moved the container to the location close to other uboxes from the same order. Then a new issue came, we suddenly noticed the hitch was cutted almost into half which makes the locker very vulnerable (The last time we acccessed the same container the hitch was at the full length). So another conversation started with them but unfortunately have to leave it as it was since it was late aleady and there is no way to fix it without my presence.Overall, the ubox thing might work for shipping homestuff around, but there seems always having issues one after another which could surprise you. That reduces efficiency and creates chaos in certain extent. In my case, the moving company had to wait for the coordination with fully loaded truck, which cost 200 more usd out of my pocket.I took lots of pictures just in case getting surprised in new ways. But no idea if any new issues could come up. I keep the right for further debate if items get missing or damaged, or delivered to wrong place, etc.The price is cheap but maybe ubox could consider providing more reasonable service even with charging a bit more. Or next time probably other service provider which is more accessible could be a better option.
Avalon Transportation

I rented an older model car for a month with limited mileage allowed, and the maintenance light came on after a few weeks. I paid a little over $900, and I noticed the invoice or receipt isnt itemized, and the taxes seem excessive. They require too much personal information, such as your social security number, when it isnt necessary for insurance or renting a car. They leave your information viewable at the front desk—no protection of customers' private data. If you dont have insurance, you are rushed to buy a 6-month vague policy with State Farm. I left cell phone items by mistake in the car when I returned it, and it took them two days to respond to my email and tell me the items werent in the vehicle. I have evidence of one of the items being left in the car because I took photos when I dropped off the car. Either someone at their company took them, or they threw them away. I cant see anyone throwing a cell phone holder and charger away. I returned the car a day early because they were closed on the weekend, and they didnt refund me for the extra day. I would not rent from here again.

Bernie worked hard to find me an insurance carrier after my policy on my apartment building was cancelled. He applied for me to at least 6 different carriers. I was declined at most of them because I had a high loss ration due to a roof problem last year. Bernie stuck with me and found a replacement insurance carrier after I explained many details and factors and he understood my situation and needs.I am very grateful and I recommend Bernie to anyone needing insurance.Bob Newkirk

The worst car mechanic shop you will ever meet.- very UNPROFESSIONAL: my car had a collision and was assigned to this shop for repair. After the inspection for estimate, there is no any update. I called several times. One week after the inspection they said they haven't even submitted the inspection pictures to the insurance company at all. They promised to submit the photos finally. After that I called them several times to follow up. Each time they either never answers the phone or told me they haven't heard back from the insurance company. After another two weeks, I called them again and they said they haven't heard back from the insurance company and they will check with the insurance company. A few hours later the insurance company called me and said they do not wanna work on my car. And the insurance company told me they actually have approved the estimate about 10 days ago. So this shop has been not doing anything since day one but just kept lying to the customer. So DO NOT work with this shop as they will NEVER take care of your car. If you wanna take initiative to follow up, they will then just keep LYING to you and tell you there is no any update for weeks or months. So you waste lots of time waiting for them until you figure out they are not doing anything and just lie to you and have you wait forever.- very rude: the customer service is very very rude on the phone. They never give you any update and normally won't answer your phone.- big liar: lie to the customers from day one about your car repair status and progress. So DO NOT waste your time to send your car to them for repair. They will do nothing but lying to you and wasting your time and having you wait for months.

Enterprise Car Sales
4517 Stevens Creek Blvd, Santa Clara, CA 95051, United States
We have been shopping for a newer used car (2014-2015) for a few months. Been to several lots and even our Credit Unions used car fair. We found several cars we liked, however the price and/or the mileage was higher than we wanted. I had heard from an Enterprise shuttle driver that they sold cars, and that the cars selected for sale were all low miles, mint condition and the prices were below blue book. The financing we wanted to use was through our Credit Union, who finances 100% on used cars low BB amount, so we decided to stop at the N 1st Street Enterprise sales lot since we happened to be in San Jose for the Credit Union sale anyways. We saw several cars that fit our needs, but our favorite (2015 300C) was not our favorite color combination (Black/Black). While we were test driving it, and then a beautiful 2015 fully loaded Impala, our sales guy Dominic searched other Enterprise Sales locations and found one with lower miles which was a silver/pearl color. He told us it was in Redwood City, and if we wanted to see it he would drive up there and bring it down while we had lunch. After lunch it was waiting for us, what a beautiful car! Under 20k miles, mint condition, and below BB. SOLD!!!We also worked with Daniel on the financing paperwork so that we could drive it home. He got the rates from TechCU for a temporary approval until we finalized paperwork with them. As I was signing on the dotted line, Dominic arranged for the car to be filled up and detailed. Smooth dealings... and we drove it home that afternoon. Our Credit Union financed 100%, we did have to come up with some cash ($3) for an extended warranty and tax/registration that brought the total price over the 100% mark. I 100% will purchase my next car from Enterprise. What a great experience, no haggle needed. We did our research and the price of this car was about $8,000 lower than the used car lots.A shout out to TechCU credit union also. I had an old checking account with about $300 balance, and they financed this car at 2.4%. Hard to find a better deal than that on a used car. Unless you let their staff find a car for you, they finance at 1.99%.Anyway! I am a very happy camper!
Estancia at Santa Clara Apartments
1650 Hope Dr, Santa Clara, CA 95054, United States
Overall 2.5/5: I would not recommend Estancia (an Equity property) to my friends and families. I lived in Estancia from March/2022 to April/2024. I will break my rating into five categories, starting with the cons:- Price 0/1: First, the rent is 5-10% higher above fair market price IMO, with some hidden or higher fees such as 50$/M valet trash service and 75$/M cat rent, +25$ above normal price. Second, renewal increases 10% (max allowed by law) every year. My rent went 2702 -> ~2970(+10%) -> negotiated to 2840 (+5%) -> ~3100 (+10%) -> negotiated to 3070 (+8%) then decided to leave. Last, the move out charge is absurd. It includes 225$ cleaning fee, 300$ painting, 564$ carpet replacement, and 473$ accelerated rent fee that are unreasonable to me, when the inspection sheet says everything is either “Good” or “All OK”. Especially with the fact that my apartment had a scheduled renovation and the carpet will be replaced by hardwood anyway, charging painting and carpet replacement to the previous tenant is unreasonable in my opinion. I also provided 30-day ahead my move out date to be exactly the lease end day, therefore the accelerated rent fee is unreasonable to me as well. (will update on this)- Safety 0/1: This is a gated community but the gate is broken on average 3-4 months per year. While the gate is powered down, it is half time left open so it beat the initial purpose of being a gated community. Pedestrian entrance is sometimes open with a broken lock. The street across usually parks 5-10 mobile homes. Tailgating is common and there's no solution because of the gate design. Despite I generally felt safe in this community, I have seen suspicious people inside the community and have had packages stolen within 15 minutes of delivery.- Hygiene 0.5/1: The community is generally a clean place, but there're places that can improve. For example, there're trash stains or food leaked out of bag along the way through which the trash bags are taken from apartments to outside trash cans. The leaked food will remain on the stairs and roads for months and it is still not cleaned. I have received multiple emails in the past two years suggesting that there's a stair / patio / something cleaning scheduled, but they all end up being delayed to a TBD date. Maybe I missed it but I personally have not seen or hear one. I have seen rat inside the community - not around the trash cans, but inside the buildings and on peoples patios.Next are the pros:- Floor Plan and Noise 1/1: Estancia had one of the best floor plans I have seen in the Bay Area. I lived in a 1B1B and the ~800 sqft floor plan felt spacious. If the balcony is facing the right direction, there's ample sun light. Noise concern is case-by-case: I personally don't find the airplane noise annoying. I have had above neighbors who are high school students who like alcohol, party, and loud music - it wasn't bearable at all. After they left, my above neighbors are decent normal people and I only occasionally hear their footsteps.- Maintenance 1/1: Estancia has an amazing local maintenance team! Thank you, James, Alberto, and many others that helped with my repair tickets. They are honest, fast, and careful. Most of my requests are taken care of within 2-3 days. For the ones that take longer, such as a dishwasher replacement and a dryer replacement, they gave proper heads up and kept me in the loop.To conclude, I generally had a good **living** experience with Estancia for the past two years. While I understand the incentive of making profit for a public company (Equity) and the renewal part is not controlled by the Estancia team, I consider it bad intent to place unreasonable charges and bet on the tenant is unaware / lazy so they can make a bit extra from the tenant. Because of this, you should only consider living in Estancia if you have a higher budget and won't care about losing a few extra grands. However, with a higher budget there're many other better, newer, and safer communities to choose from, so Estancia can't be an attractive option.
